I know this isn't 3rd gen related but I figure most of us go straight here rather then general discussion. So wanted to share a video I just watched. And I'm ashamed of people and feel sorry for those who do this to people. !!

Been to those places way back when but knew enough when something was up. I had enough street smarts to know when somebody was yanking my chain. Took a few shops before I found one that was up front and honest... until they switched owners. Then was just like all the rest unfortunately.
 
Ha I watched one of their episodes about how gas stations only sell premium to fool people it helps their car run better. Their "experts" said premium is unnecessary and gas stations are ripping people off by selling it. As far as this video, nowadays you have online reviews. Less and less shops are scamming people because if the owner finds out they were scammed, they post a nasty review and thus kills the shops business as others read it. Most shops if u are unsatisfied will try to fix any issues or misunderstandings with a customer to avoid a bad review. Although their are some people you can't please no matter what, usually they just wine to get free stuff done even if the shop did a reasonable job.
 
This is just like the "Jiffy Lube" places. Do your own oil changes. You pay more but get better quality oil and little bit of self accomplishment.
 
Or just find someone you trust. Not everybody has the time or space to be doing fluid changes themselves.

Than you find a way. I did mine at buddy's houses. Parking lots. Small investment of tools. I did my first oil change when I was 12 years old.

No excuse to not do your own maintenance. It's just not being capable to learn or your just lazy. Never buy an old used car if not capable of turning a wrench. Will bite you in the long run.
 
Nothing wrong with genuine upselling when it comes to oil quality..

"Do you want super cheap or branded?" essentially.

Obviously saying things are faulty or need replacing when they don't is fraud.

Personally I'd never let those monkeys near mine.. slopping oil everywhere.. ew.

Gas thing they did I was sold on. They should of done with a hooked up turbo car. Then it would of made a difference

I have tools, space, and knowledge. Just no time with school and work. I still found a way while owning multiple old vehicles.

There is always time. You are doing no more than any of the rest of us. I have work, overtime, family, kids, side job and still find the time to work on my vehicles. Im also the guy that everyone brings there vehicle to for this trusted work. I understand getting some time consuming work done if you need. But an oil change. It takes 15 minutes.

I guess I really believe sleep is over rated. I have slept 4-6 hours everynight for the last 11 years. My oldest kid is 11.

Eh, not worth it for me. Oil change? Just bring the oil and filter of my choice to my friend. Buy him lunch and my oil is changed. Occasionally I'll do some work, but I'm just not into getting dirty anymore. I only really spend time oiling up the undercarriage for winter. Dropping a few hundred on maintenance is still better to me than making payments.

6 hours? I need lots of coffee just to be awake after 8 hours.
 
Sleep is not overrated ! At least as I remember it , it's been 10 years since our oldest was born and I had a good nights sleep . On the good side though my 4 year old says he's ready to go change the oil on HIS 4runner by himself .
 
Number one reason I'm trying to move out of my apartment is so that I can get a Garage.


Wife just wants a place to decorate.....
