replaced them today, no problem. when i was going to install the connectors for the coils, they broke! now they are loose on the coils! toyota doesn't sell the connector. years of heat did them in and they broke. has this happened to anyone here?

Which connector? Do you mean the coil plug boot going to the plug (NAPA sells those), or the connector for the ignition wire (I'd have to look.)?

the connector that goes to the coil, that is part of the harness. you have to disconnect it to remove the coil.

Should be this one:

I haven't checked on my truck, but that looks right from memory. For future reference, the part numbers of all connectors are listed in the Wiring Manual here:http://tacoma.site40.net/4Runner_96-02_Repair&Wiring/techinfo.toyota.com/ileaf/ewdtmc2/ewdtmpdf/ewdsourc/2002/024runne/partnumb/partnumb.pdf

Of course, stealers can't be bothered to find anything that doesn't show up in their part database. Funny thing, it shows up for the Lexus and the 5G Runner so they DO sell that part separately, just not for our 4Runner. WTF?

Happy to help. I'd download that page if I were you. Toyota has been ordering takedowns of these manuals; this is the only one I know of still up.

I've had trucks where these clips were broken. Put the plug back in place and you can zip tie it to the coil pack. Replacing obviously the better way to go but the zip tie will keep you driving.
