Poor mpg

I saw in one of the youtube video's Skotty Kilmer saying use 1 gal paint thinner or something with gasoline to clean the injectors. Haven't tried that. Anybody aware of this?

Also I am planning to clean the air flow sensor later this weekend. Lets see how it goes.

I have friend in Australia having a 98 prado with 5vzfe (manual transmission) and he said he gets 22.6 MPH (after converting it to miles/gallons scale).

The best I have achieved is 21.5 on I-5, regularly 20 MPG. But recent values are 17.6 and 18 MPG. I fill gas all the way to the gas cap and do my trip and refill it all the way to the gas cap. This is how I find the mileage. I have a roof rack and 265/75 off road tires (Sport king A/T).

My attempt is to get it to 20 MPG!
 
I replaced my air filter because it really needed it and sea foamed yesterday. I got 20.3 mpg and that is way better than 16!

Lol, I don't need an excuse to drive it around. Knowing how bad ass it looks it's enough ;) I get at least 3 compliments a day and it's stock. Can't wait til I get my mods started.
 
Fill it to the gas cap?

I think filling tank all the way up the fill pipe will flood (ruin) your vapor canister.
 
I just did tune up (new plugs, wires, pcv and cleaned TB), no fuel filter, peoeple out there think seafoam treatment is a good idea?
Ive never really heard of it until now...
 
Since I got my 99 Ltd (18 Fillups ago according to my log) the best I've ever got was 17.2mpg when I used my truck for commute only at 99% highway 1% side street, cruise control at 60mph on mostly flat highway. That is the best it will ever get as far as driving conditions go. So far I've only changed my filter and done the sea foam treatment to try and improve it. Saw no change with either one. I also run lucas in pretty much every tank. Truck is stock. Worst tank was 12.2 mpg when I went ice fishing and did some idling to get warm.
 
You're also gonna see a slight drop in mileage generally once the cold weather starts. "Winter gas" has additives in it to keep it from forming any ice crystals which mildly affect it's ability to combust, thus car mileage.

Keep that in mind for the colder months.

I hauled a heavy load from Vegas to Louisiana. After that day my truck did the same! 13 MPG! Before this trip it did 20-21 mpg in NV and CA area.

I took off the battery neg. terminal. Press the brake and hold for a minute or two. Leave it over night. Connect the battery and turn the ignition to ACC and leave for 10 minutes.

Before you strat the car make sure AC, head lights and everything else is off and start the truck. It might hesitate to start. once it starts running leave it for 8-10 minutes.

What happens is reset the ECU to factory settings. It will take fresh readings from the sensors.

After this adjustment I did a trip 90 miles and took 5.2 Gal (65 miles freeway at 70 MPH and 25 miles city and 70 minutes parked with AC on. Impressive mileage!)
