Popping/Knocking from Front End

Yup, LCA bolts. Dealer did this to me once after an alignment and you can't recreate it without driving the truck.

raising an old thread...

but i had similar sounds. REALLY bad creaking and popping sounds. I couldnt figure it out for the life of me. I grease the crap out of my UCA bushes and sway bar. WOuldn't go away. I just put in new coilovers too so it wasnt my old coilovers.

It was the cam bolts. They were torqued WAY under 100#s. I set my torque wrench to 100#s and i had to give it a few good turns to finally hit 100#s. The front bolts were eh... maybe 80#s, but the rear bolts were SUPER lose. I had to turn those a bunch. Sounds 100% GONE! phew.

So I have the Firestone lifetime alignment. I know, you get what you pay for... but I get alignments often and didnt want to pay each time. :(

Lesson: kinda gotta watch out for the work at Firestones. I'm going to be VERY specific with them in the future and specify for them to double check the torque specs.

Hey Joshik,

Were the noises similar to this? Noise started post lift.. just thinking about the cam bolts being torqued, pretty sure the rear bolts were the only ones torqued to spec and not the front ones.

Trying to do some research first before I throw more money on LCA’s trying to chase this noise.

Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming you got an alignment after your lift so it definitely could be. It sounds similar. Mine seemed louder but I would def go under there and try to tighten down the bolts yourself. Worth a shot. Should be an easy troubleshooting step before you throw more money at it.

I tightened mine and it all went away except for one slight "pop" sound I get when reversing. I know it's the cam bolts but man I torqued it and still get the sound. Might get some Stop Cams down the line.

I learned that it is important to go to a good alignment shop. I have the lifetime Firestone one and while it's nice to go whenever I want, the quality is not there (obviosuly, my last alignment left the cam bolts ultra loose). I would say the firestone alignment is like going to jiffy lube to change your oill, at least mine are like that. :(

Yes I did. Although in my case the noise popped up right after the lift install and before the alignment. I’ll try and get the front cambolt nut torqued too (read that somewhere here in the forums).

Does your popping sound appear when you accelerate hard/ brake hard?

Hope it works out! Otherwise, it’s a go for the LCA replacement.
