Popping noise from speakers

Has anyone ever experienced popping noise from the speakers when the radio unit is on? I have a 2011 5th gen with nav and I started having popping noise coming from the speakers when using any of the satellite stations. I've turned off bluetooth on my phone thinking it may have been phone interference, but to no avail. I've localized it to just when playing satellite as there has been no popping while listening to music in either FM or USB cable. Does the XM unit attach to the stereo/nav separately or is it all one piece? Anyone have an idea of what may be causing this or experienced the same thing? I know it's not the entire stereo as it would have popped in both USB and FM mode. Could it be the satellite antenna? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem and have also noticed this only on XM. I didn't notice at all until recently. Makes me think it isn't a hardware issue. Maybe a problem with the XM service?

How loud is your popping? I have not had any with AM/FM/XM/MP3 but I have recently started streaming Pandora and every now and then during some songs I hear what I think is faint popping. I figured this was just due to streaming and maybe a low quality song/connection. It does not do it all the time only certain times.

Same experience here. Timing suggests that the issue is with the source (XM) and not the receiving equipment. Solar flares tickling the satellite?

Popping in Speakers

I have almost the same problem,
I have this loud popping in speakers, it appears only when it's wet outside, and when i have the faceplate of my stereo off. Occasionally i'll get popping with the faceplate on and the stereo going, but just am/fm no xm radio. any ideas as to what is causing this?

I have the same issue! Anyone find any resolutions to this?? Anyone find that it was local to the car and not an issue with the radio?

I have popping only when the radio (FM) is playing back "stored" radio, either after I pause, or take a phone call, or whatever.

It may not be related to the nav-unit, antenna, or any of the equipment at all. But if there is a weak satellite radio signal in your area, then that signal itself becomes vulnerable to interference in the immediate broadcast area from any ambient noise with a superior signal strength, e.g., 60 cps hum, High tension power line EMF...etc. When you can, try going to a different listening area and compare the SQ to that of your own! If that doesn't seem to help, try replacing that cheap OEM (Play-Skool) antenna with one of a higher quality; That was one of the first mods that I did to the truck when I first purchased it new four years ago!

Also have Popping Sound when trning on radio

I also have a loud popping sound when I turn on the radio (2000 4Runner). The antenna starts to go up, but immediately comes back down. If I push the ON button several times there is a pop each time, but the antenna eventually goes all the way up and I can get the radio tuned. This is now a persistent problem... but once in a while, the radio will come on just fine.

Also, when this happens, all of the pre-set stations are wiped out, I have to select AM and reset to my station. The volume know also has to be turned many time clockwise to get to a level where I can hear the radio.

You mentioned the whirring sound, like a CD seeking to change tracks... that happens to mine as well. It will continue to do that even though the radio has shut down.

I have found that if I hold the power button ON the popping will occur, but the antenna will continue to rise. This also happens when holding the AM button. Sometimes the antenna will then stay up... or it might immediately come back down.

There is also no longer a light in the radio to read the channel display. So I just push the SEEK button until I get to a station I want.

I've thought of trying to install a new radio... but with over 400,000 miles on this girl, I'm not really wanting to invest in a new head... especially if that's not the problem to begin with.
