Poss purchase: would 220k scare you off?

That being said, records are complete and on schedule including trans flush and coolant flush, and was a one owner car, however, it was owned in the Bay Area, CA... Hills, poss traffic, etc.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't want one as a daily with that much mileage. Unless of course it was mine from the start.

It's one thing to have the fluids and some mechanicals regularly maintained, but at that mileage, I'd also play close attention to the suspension and drive line components.

I didn't think twice about mine with 210K. Before this, 100K was the mark of the devil in my mind. Toyota changes lives.

We have 207k miles on our 4runner. Hopefully will last us another 100k or so, but some high dollar maintenance items have been or will have to be replaced. New upper, lower, and lateral control arm bushings front and rear. $2500 done. The 4wd actuator mechanism is seeping oil. $1k minimum to fix. Starting to use more antifreeze and V6 so if headgasket problem than $3k to $4k to fix. Timing chain, water pump, pulleys possible around 250k miles.

Don't mean to be a downer, but these are some of the items to look at. Parts do wear out over time. Some things may be preventative maintenance. For me it is worth spending $8k to $10 in the next several years. It is paid off and cheaper than a newer used one. And she is my wife's babe and dd.

If the price is right with enough savings to take care of some unforeseen problems, then I would get it.

As others have said, its a Toyota... id expect at least 300k out of it. :lookout:

Daka320 might be time to do some of your own maintenance. Those prices are crazy high in my opinion. I do agree about the purchase price try to buy low if possible. As far as a daily still wouldn't stress it, drove my 87 4x4 across country twice with 280,000 ish miles.

bought mine with 199k miles, Took it off roading, across country and towing without any problems. I am at 230k miles now in about 2years.

On the v6 (1GR-FE) it is not uncommon for that head gasket to go. They did a design change in 2006 but it all depends when that engine was manufactured. If you can absorb that cost and the typical small stuff like alternator, injectors, coils, etc then I would not be afraid. Mine has 205+ and we vacation in it every year.

I bought my 04 with 135 on it and it just rolled over 190k, I have had the head gasket issue at 170k and when we had the motor opened it looked amazingly good inside, very clean, cylinders looked great, heads were clean, no gunk. Also replaced any gasket we came into contact with, bearings in all of the pulleys, water pump and one injector that looked suspicious but may have been fine. Just recently we have replaced the brakes with gen 5, one front wheel bearing and driver front axle shaft. Also recently replaced front and rear sway bar bushings and front end links. Ball joints appear to still be fine.

It helps that I could look up the POs service history on the Toyota website and my son is a mechanic. Other than the head gasket issue it has been a very reliable vehicle, I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, any distance. I plan on driving this for a long time.

Bought mine from the first owner at 250k and it runs fine. It has a long service record and has also been in NorCal (Sac) its whole life. I am guessing another 100k out of this badboy before anything major.

Also bought mine 3 or 4 years ago with 200k on it from the first owner...mostly highway miles. I now got 346k and still running strong! Just replaced the radiator....thats about it.
