Possible Bud built group buy

Ok guys and gals I called bud built today to ask some questions and got to talking to bud about a group buy. We didn't discuss prices yet, he just said to see how many people are interested and then get back with him about prices.

Things that will make it cheaper is if you do a regional buy for example I am in the Pacific Northwest. So Me and all the guys in washington and oregon area can figure out a place convenient for all of us to pick up our skids. This will save alot on shipping because bud can put them all on a pallet and ship all together. So shipping for us would be $20- $30 instead of 40-$50. The only draw back is that it will need to be delivered to a company not a resident. I am ASSUMING becuase they have the means to offload it, but there is a good chance I am wrong. lol

Keep in mind bud does sell more than just 4runner stuff and in different sizes. So if your worried about weight and/or you only wheel light he does sell the same skids in 1/8 and 3/16. So let your other toyota friends know and let me know.

So who is interested?
If you want to do it by region let me know and Ill group yall together.

I had no idea they made them in a lighter form. Any idea what the weight difference is on the 1/16 compared to the 3/16?

From what he said 1/8 is around 1/3 of the weight of the 3/16th thickness which is 55lbs.

I was asking about it cuz I don't wheel as hard or often enough to be driving around with 55 extra pounds of steel under my rig. Not to mention thats just the ifs skid. I dont know how much the rest of them wiegh.

Bud compared the factory skid to the 1/8 BB ifs skid and its 3 x the thickness supposedly. I don't remember how thick they are. I took mine off a long time ago. So thats good enough for me. If i bend it up I can take it off and bash it out with a hammer.

Josh and COB want to ship to the same place?

We're on the same plane here. Different price? Thanks in advance for all the research.

Unfortunately they were the same price, but only because they order less of the 1/8 thickness. They get a discount on the 3/16th because they order so many. Thats how the group buy came up. I asked if we got enough people in then we could get the price down.

At a local metal yard the price difference on a 4' x 8' 1/8 compared to a 3/16th sheet of steel was about 60 bucks. 130-ish for 1/8 and 190 ish for 3/16th

that "55lbs" is their "shipping" weight, they weigh closer to 70lbs each so if you got the thinner ones they would probably be about 55lbs. they list the shipping weight to the shipping co less than it is so that they dont have to pay so much to ship them, it gets them in a lighter category and allows them to not have to be palatalized...

I am definatly interested & if the price is right I could put DFW on the map, and I have a commercial address (offloading capabilities). I also have a bunch of FJ buddies I will send to as well......let me know what you hear about pricing as i am sure this will end up being the deal maker.

Count me in too. I'm in the central sierra foothills, but if theres a socal group buy then I'll just find an excuse to go to LA for a weekend...

Edit...Want to get 3/16 bare front skid

You head down towards St. George much? If this goes through, I head out there every so often, I could at least get it that far for you if you really wanted.

I don't go down there too often, but I may be planning a trip down to vegas for spring break. I know someone who has family down there too so I can have them hold on to it for me down there. Thanks for the heads up!

These are on the short list of things to buy for my '01. I've been in touch w/Bud a few times recently.

I'm in Albuquerque, NM and I've got a business address for shipping w/a forklift available for unloading pallets if necessary.

I'll keep an eye on the thread and see what materializes here.
