I am looking at a 2002 sunfire red sport edition with a little over 100k miles on it. I need to find out if the timing belt has been changed or not as that will play into the price that I offer for this 4runner. What would be a good offer for me to make? I have looked at kbb and nada, but I still wanted to get a good price check from people we are/have purchased this exact vehicle. Is this the type of vehicle that you can trust over 100k miles? What are some things that I should look for when I go check out this thing? I want to make sure that I make the best decision that I can and I won't have to be making costly repairs to it.

nice, you shouldn't pay over 8k for it and as for miles 100k is just through the break-in. Timing belt and water pump with some of the obvious tune-ups and it should be good for another 100k easy.
 
ha 100K miles! thats a steal!!! i currently have 215,000 with all the mait kept up to date and the thing i just now showing its wrinkles
 
From what i have been reading around here its just getting broke in, but I just wanted to see what everyone thought. I dont know if below 8k would be possible. I was thinking $9k, but I guess I could try $8k as long as they dont just tell me to leave. haha.

What are some things that I should be looking for when I go check this thing out? I have read that there is normally a sticker put on the timing chain cover if/when the belt gets replaced. Is there anything else that I can look for to make sure this thing has been taken care of?

Can someone point me in the right direction with the price and what to look for when i get there? I am not trying to be pushy, but I am going to look at it tomorrow and would like to look at all the possible trouble spots.

mostly it would be the timing belt and water pumps, belts, hoses. other than that leakes under truck, tires. see how it drives. if you have a trusted mechanic swing by and see if they will put it up on a lift and give it a once over. but as others have said 100k is just broken in. i have a 00 with a 117K and no problems. see if you can get ahold of cars records,and old owner to ask ????s. sometimes thats the biggest help. hope this helps and good luck
 
see if you can get all service records from current owner. also, consider upgrades you would want to do/need to do, like stereo, satellite radio, remote start and consider how many of those are already on the vehicle. tires, water pump, timing belt are the big 3 you need to really consider however. i think 8-9 is very fair, especially when suv's are tough to sell these days.

depends if you let them go and ruin the rear brake drums

Roughly $500 a side,at a dealership- slightly less if you can get to them before the drums are soaked.
