Possible new T4R purchaser

Hi all, I have been seriously considering buying a 4Runner in the near future. I have had my eye on one in particular, a 2008 SR5 with 163,000 miles on it. The dealer is asking $9,999 for it. That seems high to me with the mileage, but when I look it up on NADA and KBB, that is below the book value. It looks to be in immaculate condition, and when I looked up the service records and the Carfax, it had meticulous care taken of it, including being garage kept (one owner as well). I did note that I did not see the timing belt replacement; it is the V8. It has added options such as full power driver and passenger seat, and moonroof. I don't put over 10,000 miles a year on a vehicle, and would most likely get a 36 month loan so it would probably still be under 200,000 when I paid it off. So, my question is, do you guys think this would be a fair price for this vehicle? Thanks for your help!

I just bought an 06 Sport V8 4x4 with 159k miles for $10500.

Seems like a pretty good price for an 08. Definitely check it out as repairs can build up fast. I had to have the timing belt done on mine immediately cause it had a small coolant leak from the water pump.

I emailed the dealer today and he said it has no rust on it (it's in PA) and runs great. Seriously considering it.....

I would say that's a fairly good price. From my experience of multiple 4Runners, 4Runner sales kind of don't follow KBB, but the local market. {{In other words, regardless of what KBB says, that same truck is with like 18k in Hawaii, 14k in DMV, and like 10K where you are }} Ask for and demand a warranty and even try and lower the price since its a dealer. Look at tread on tires, tires aren't cheap. Check the oil. Look at all the body lines. Look at all exterior lights for TOYOTA imprinted on them meaning they are original (replacement of one side - say the headlight and foglight on same side could mean an unreported accident). Look at the carpet and areas for flood damage. Also I think theres a sticky at beginning of forum of what to look for. And theres a thread about what people paid. Gauge that info and bounce it off local craigslist ads too. Ask yourself - why hasn't someone already bought this. In he end - buy it and mod it and post it on here!

It started at $12,599 in November and they reduced it in January I think, but, they haven't sent it to auction, so maybe it is a decent vehicle. I asked if they included a warranty and they said they sell as-is, and it would sell at the price advertised. I'm not used to this "internet price" stuff, I'm used to bargaining for a vehicle. If I go, I'll definitely work on them some.

That's good they wanted more not too long ago. That's a more realistic price for what you're getting. If this is a Toyota dealer and they won't warranty: run. I'm gonna assume that this isn't and they must know Toyota repairs are no joke sometimes, especially dealer prices. In the end you really don't know what the future holds for mechanical breakdowns. That's why you must purchase it at the absolute minimum price so you will have disposable income to throw at it. Get a warranty lol. And do as I say not as I do. I purchased my latest and greatest at an auction without test driving it. If it make you happy grab it - you will rationalize unforeseen costs in your own way lol.

It actually is a Toyota/Chevrolet/Scion dealer. The person that had it before had everything done at a Toyota garage it would appear, and it has great records. I would also consider using a timing belt/water pump change as a bargaining chip. If they did that, it would probably be set for a while. Hopefully it wouldn't end up with the frozen caliper issue.
