Potential Buyer Needs Help...

I'm thinking about trading in my Silverado for a 2013 or later 4Runner. I've got 2 dogs and a baby girl on the way and I hardly use the bed of the pickup. I'm more interested in buying used because I know I can find a better deal.

I'm curious as to what an appropriate mileage cutoff would be for a used 2013 or better 4WD 4Runner, preferably SR5 or Trial models. I plan on doing work on my own to customize.

I just purchased a 2014 with 25K miles. These things run forever. Don't worry about mileage, but price. You can find a 2013 with 50K miles asking $2k less than a 2014 with 25K miles. Trust me, I've seen it. Be patient for the right deal.

I just bought mine at 61k personally I was trying to REALLY control my budget, but I made a cap of about 75k based on all the feedback I've seen regarding the longevity of these vehicles.

So far the theme is "Don't let a little mileage scare ya" lol. Hope it stands true. I'm also fortunate enough where I BARELY drive probably 7k miles a year ha.

Look at some new units also. You might be surprised how little difference there is in price between a new and a used unit. You can usually get a better interest rate and longer term financing on a new vehicle, plus you have the benefit of a full warranty. If you do buy used, look for one with a clean Carfax or other report and where you can get info on service history. Toyotas will run almost forever if properly maintained. We currently own three and are looking to buy a fourth.

I found my girl on craigslist for $5k and she only had 92K miles. Ive had her for about 3 years now and I would never trade her for another vehicle. Well, maybe a newer one. But i waited for a little bit to find her. But like what MuttJockey said, a new one could be more beneficial also. You do get that warrantee.

It truly depends on your actual budget too, you can take mileage with a grain of salt as long as common sense and maintenance records show the vehicle to be in good shape. Like others have mentioned if you are right on the border line of new and used look for dealer and manufacturer rebates. You might be surprised what a dealer is willing to let a new unit go out the door for. But for your information my 12 SR5 prem w/nav was picked up used with 31,000 miles for 30,500. Toyota financing even beat out my credit union so I was pretty thrilled. Happy shopping!

I could use some insights to in picking between the sr5 premium vs limited.

I understand the sr5 premium is part time 4wd which needs turning the knob to engage into 4wd vs full time awd limited. Also read that when this is activated 4runner will not go anywhere when going from bad condition/slick road onto dry pavement. As I in iowa sometimes we have crummy weather in the winter, this is an important factor regarding which model i choose, and am wondering how difficult it is to get around in the winter when using part time 4wd on the premium, as in if I engaged in 4wd on one street and then turn into a plowed more dry road will I have issue with the 4runner not going anywhere and I need to reswitch back to 2wd?

another question is is the 4runner awd? thanks much everyone! And I apologize for my amateur questions, but only way for me to learn is to ask.

Can't go wrong with either. I went with new because the used 4runners were nearly the same price as new.

I wouldn't buy one with more that 150k, or 200 with maintenance records, haha.
