Powder Coating wheels

What color should I powder coat my wheels?

I have a buddy at work who just did a repair on my wheel for my Mercedes yesterday. He did a terrific job matching the color. Before I took it to him, someone else painted it completely wrong. It was a few shades too dark.

So he repaints my whole wheel for only $30. Looks like OEM. No wonder he fixes all of our dealership's wheels.

So I told him I would bring my 4Runner to him to estimate fixing a rim with a lot of fade (one of my Tundra's is getting pretty badly faded), figuring he'd do it for $30. While showing him, I ask him about powder coating them all a bit darker shade of gray. He has been in the wheel repair business for years and offers to do all four of my Tundras for $200, including mount and rebalance, etc.

So, I am pretty sure I am going to take that offer because it's a great price.

I just need to come up with the color I want to match it with. I am thinking a darker, more gunmetal shade of gray.

My current wheel color:

The color I think would look better, or maybe slightly darker. Here are my choices of color.

Probably about a 60% gloss and a dark gray.

Opinions appreciated :) None of that "It's your truck, you decide" crap. I'm asking for your opinion! Pleeeeeeeeeease lol

Just dropped mine off yesterday to get powder coated. I went with matte black... I think #1 would look great with your ride IMO.

I think that the dark gray would look great with your BFG's and with IJM paint. I remember seeing pics of an IJM with dark gray rims and that thing looked badass!!

powder...

photo 1 will look nice on your truck...would you mind laying the parts that went into giving your truck that awesome stance? I have a 98, that needs some suspension attention, looking to upgrade at same time. thanks

disregard, found your mod page!

I like the darker grey of photo 2. Not necessarily the presence or absence of gloss, just the darker shade. The pictures I've seen of the Tundra wheel in the darker colors always seemed to look more...businesslike. Regrettably, the set that I've found at a decent price is the bright silver, but my 4runner still has all the chrome. Yours, I think, would look really good (as in, MORE really good than it does right now) with the darker wheels. Either finish will be classy, but I voted for the darker of the two. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Voted "other". I think matte black would look outstanding. I think it would set off the grill, sliders etc. Good looking rig BTW.

Here I go...."Mister Different"! I say powder coat them to look like the stock color.....I don't know.....kinda think the dark wheels will be too much.....JMO!

Usually I'd immediately say graphite, but with your dark green I honestly think the silver looks the best. Gives it a nice contrast.

imo the first picture.. Im a huge fan of black wheels also but a lighter color would give more contrast. Thats an awesome price too, before I painted mine I was given a quote of 150 per.. paint cost me 20 lol..

I do like the Gunmetal on dark vehicles and have thought about doing mine. But... I scratch the heck out of mine while rock crawling. The stock silver hides the scars better.

P.S. "It's your truck, you decide"
