05 sr5 v8 2x4. i have performance exaughst, volant intake, airaid throttle body spacer, and a unichip. I cant find a supercharger anywhere and im not a big fan of turbos but still open. is that really all you can do with the runner? i feel like there should be more

You could start by ripping out the TBS and unichip, those definitely are not helping, and the sealed intake and exhaust are debatable as well
 
Sadly nothing you've done has added any real power. But coupled with a custom tune (not a programmer) you can make better use of those mode (except the throttle body spacer that thing is pretty much a paper weight)

Not much in terms of cams that I know of because of the VVT-i and being and interference engine picking the wrong cam could destroy the valve train.

I haven't found much useful 4Runner specific v8 performance parts (but then again I haven't looked much). You might have better luck on a Tundra forum though IMO.

X2 on this LOL...the cheapest option is forced induction and even that will cost you thousands and you'll only be able to run low boost. I believe URD has been working on a supercharger setup for the V8 but I don't think they've released it yet.
 
30 years ago there were several things you could do to improve performance.

But with computer controlled engine management systems your options are very limited.

Engines are also far better designed with the engineers knowing far more then they did 30 years ago. Computer Aided designs have helped engineers make extreme and precise designs. Before the block is even cast they know within a very small margin how much HP and torque the engine will have.
 
Unfortunetly this is not your grandad's big block chevy. You can't open up the valve seats to fit newer/wider intakes on them like you could in the old days.

You can add a supercharger, get a stand alone computer unit to manage the fuel and so on. Upgrade the fuel pump & filter to match the new components; in my honest opinion you have no business putting a turbo or supercharger on an NA engine without rebuilding the bottom and top end to handle the boost and extra power you want. They stopped supporting the TRD Supercharger for the 4.7L (2UZ-FE) because the Tundras would blow motors at "stock" boost (granted they were American made engines vs. the Japanese built Land Cruiser & 4Runner units.)

The transmission can probably take something like 400ft.lbs. of torque before it starts getting strained (just a guess, not really backed by anything.) Transfer case should be okay, though if you're going for more power you're better off updating the transfer case to a beefier unit to handle the extra torque. Our rear axles I've heard aren't as robust as say a Ford 9", there are companies that make replacements that will handle the stress. Currie (SP?) makes some neat units for the FJ (120 Platform also, will fit fairly close.)

In the end if you're looking for more than the, lets say 5hp/3ft.lbs of power at the rear wheels (which is gonna be what your mods have really netted you if that, to be honest with you.) You need to spend serious money and thought into not only beefing up the engine output the rest of the vehicle to handle your goals.

I am not trying to turn you away, its just a lot of people like to "tune" their cars but end up having no idea what truely "tuning" or getting performance out of a vehicle really means. Its all a balancing act, there's a reason a Corvette ZR1 is built the way it is vs. some shmuck who tosses a supercharged LS3 into his Camaro.

The a750 so far can handle 390 whp 452 ft lbs at the wheels on my friends turbo tacoma, (V6 1GR @ 8.7 psi) ;) stock block too. Although we did do the valve body upgrade. I'm netting 300 ft lbs at the wheels on a stock trans and is just fine. rear ends are also handling the power just fine, for now.
 
I read that an article about Tacoma rear ends not handling a lot of offroad stress. Not sure if it meant rock crawling or what. A lot of guys I know haven't had issues with the rear ends, but then I've heard from others that the more modern Toyota axles are a weak point.

Good to know the trans can hold up the power though! I wish I had 450lbs tq!
