I'm thinkin about buyin one and was wonderin who uses one, how big is it, and what do you mainly use it for?

I have one in both of my trucks.

In my 4Runner:

3000W continuous / 6000W peak inverter. I use it to run everything from camera battery chargers to laptops, to power tools. Its overkill most of the time.

In my Land Cruiser:

1100W continuous / 2000W peak inverter. Same stuff as above, minus power tools. An ideal size and relatively small.

Like how big a cable and how many batteries. Yikes, that's about 250amps on the 12V side, without allowing for any loss. Or does it not run on 12V? It takes a 50mm cable to do 150amp DC based on a quick Google. Am I missing something?
 
I saw some where on this forum or another one.

some one mounted one under the gear shift consol so it was probably a 400w-ish but they mounted it so the plugs where cut through the side on the passagners knee and can plug in. was pretty cool.


i was thinking a 400w would be sufficant, but now I am thinking bigger. lol
I know go big or go home.

Your talking around 2/0 AWG cable with a 350a fuse for a 2500w continuous /3000w peak inverter. For 5000w your at 300 MCM cable and a 600a fuse.:wow2:
 
I did this little writeup a few years back (on mp3car.com) on how to remotely turn the inverter on. Might give some of you guys a few ideas....

I've still got the same one and it works great. I'm on my 3rd or 4th vehicle with it. It will be installed again once I get my amp/sub in my 96'.

I use 2 Die Hard Platinum Group 65 batteries, 2/0 cable and a 250A in line fuse with a 400A fuse bank on the inverter. I know that with the 250A fuse in there I am not getting full power... but I don't need it. As I mentioned earlier... overkill. 1100W continuous should be plenty for most on board applications.
