Power Steering Pump- What is the wire for?

Does anyone know what the wire connected to the power steering pump is for? I've always wondered what it does...and I just broke it during a timing belt change.

What does this sensor do and how can I replace that plastic connector?

Are you referring to the cam position sensor wire that runs near the P/S pump?

PS idle-up switch. If the power steering pressure goes up high enough, it tells the ECU to slightly bump the idle up to compensate for the increase engine load the pump puts on the engine in those situations.

Thank you, sir. The wire was severed right at the plastic connector that attaches to the switch. Do you have any ideas on how to replace that plastic fitting?

You need a repair wire--a short wire with the correct terminal pre-attached, which you then insert into your plastic housing after removing the old wire/terminal. Specifically, you need this one (82998-12440):

If you need the plastic connector housing with no wire because your old one is trashed, it is 90980-11428:

Toyota does not sell the housing and wire together, only separately.
