Pregant wife and Torn ACL/Meniscus

My wife and I have a 15 month son who is loads of fun but makes finding modding/wheeling time challenging until he's old enough to go with me. We found out right before Memorial day that my wife is pregnant again with the due date being January 3, 2013. Once we found out I started making plans for some time off in August to do some trail ride / camping trips because finding time in much 2013 might be hard with two young kids. The bummer is that I ended up tearing my ACL / meniscus & spraining my MCL / PCL badly over Memorial Day weekend and now have surgery scheduled for August 8th. Not that this makes wheeling completely impossible but it certainly doesn't help make it easier to schedule or do maintenance / mods..... Definitely can't do my August trips either.

My wife doesn't value off roading the way I do so I had to share my disappointment with a people who would have understand the frustration.

Maybe do some personal mods and use the down time as an opportunity for a vasectomy? If you are a real DIYer you could get ambitious. Your chance to turn lemons into lemonade.

No need to post photos.
 
H20_Doc - That response was exactly why I posted here. Since we are still considering three total of our own at this point the vasectomy is a bit premature. but good suggestion.

On the contrary, I believe this is a mod that could lead to more wheeling time for everybody. I think Gannon should post a full walkthrough.
 
Haha, you are going down the same road as me...my first two are 16 months apart! Actually, my situation was a bit worst than yours. It is like having twins because both were in diapers at the same time. I am expecting my 3rd in October.

Anyways, i used to own a Mercedes G-wagen and 4runner before kids, now i have a Prius, a minivan, and a Subaru wagon. No more off-roading. The most off-roading is going over the curb on my way to Babies R Us!

Oh wait, was this thread supposed to cheer you up or make you feel worst? Sorry. :D It's OK, dumping your 4runner for a minivan is the logical next step...only real man do this! Trust me...i tell that to myself everyday while standing in front of a mirror!

From what I have seen of my parents, you have to sacrifice and compromise when you have kids, I think it is a bit silly that you this against cutting back wheeling and wrenching because of your family.
 
Hope you have a speedy recovery from your injuries. Congrats on the upcoming second child. It should be a happy time for you.

You can probably take the kids offroading if you make sure to strap them in a car seat. The rocking would put them to sleep. Just make sure the wife doesn't find out :D

I reread my first sentence to see where you're coming from and I think you misinterpreted it (or I just wrote it poorly). My wife and I delayed having kids until being married for 7 years and really wanted them by the time we started. I enjoy being a dad and it has become even more enjoyable as my son has started being mobile and having a distinct personality. I'm ok with not doing my hobbies as much as I used to.

What I was really lamenting is the ACL more than anything. My wife and I have a system of giving each other a "no kid responsibilities weekend" every couple months as a way to unwind and do be able to do something without having to think about parenting. That allows me to scratch the wheeling / wrenching itch enough. The ACL basically eliminated wheeling as a possibility for those weekends and that is the disappointment.

We're pretty excited about the second one. It would be fun if it was a boy so that we could have two brothers fairly close in age. Wouldn't be bad to reuse clothes either.....

My plan is to take my son on the April novice ride that my club goes in April 2013. As long as I have a curious george video on for the ride down and plenty graham crackers he'll be fine.
