Preventive maintenance while doing supercharger?

I have a ton of things coming up the next few months, so I will be doing the supercharger kit this month and working on fuel mods and possibly manual swap a little down the road.

The list I have right now as far as prepping the truck is

- valve cover gaskets
- new spark plugs
- new transmission fluid
- transmission cooler

Considering what has to come off for the supercharger, would it make sense to do the valve cover gaskets in the same day as the install?

Happy to hear any suggestions as well. Thanks!

If they are leaking I would do them since you have to pull the intake manifold to do the valve cover gaskets.
 
If you have the time, money and beer to at least replace the gaskets, spark tube seals, cam plugs, reseal the semi circular (half moons), then do it. A new OEM PCV is also a good idea.

I recently been getting misfire cel codes so either clean the old injectors or put in new ones, since you have the intake manifolds pulled.

It would make perfect sense to do the valve cover gaskets at the same time if you have the time.

I'd get a new intake manifold gasket as well. Some people reuse theirs, but I am not one of those people.

Agreed. The manifold gaskets are ~$13 at my dealer from what I recall. Don't be that penny pincher. Otherwise, regular tune-up stuff. Have you considered doing a MotorVac treatment to get rid of any carbon build-up? Think of it as Seafoam on steroids. I would change the transmission fluid and throw in a Magnefine filter as well.
 
If you order the plenum gaskets you get a 2 for 1 since the supercharger only needs one, unlike the plenum you'll be taking off. Bonus!

I would recommend putting a cooler thermostat in with the supercharger. Helps with the excess heat that the charger creates. It's not just the transmission that gets hotter, the engine does too since it tends to run it a little lean (read that as HOT). You can get them for under $20, I bought one off RockAuto for like $5 but ended up not needing it, already had a cooler Toyota thermostat in there.

New PCV valve is also good. When you run an engine with boost it can also create more gases/air flow in the crank case so you want to make sure your PCV valve is working as it should. Also it's much easier to replace the grommet with the valve covers off! Tops this should cost $10 for valve and grommet.

Last but not least, install the TRD "O" shaped throttle body gasket. The regular throttle body gasket is a "D" shape and purposely obstructs part of the air flow. Not exactly sure why though. With the charger you want as much air as possible flowing in your intake.

Deckplate mod?

Anyone know the Part # fort he "TRD" throttle body gasket, Will be doing my Valve cover gaskets and all the things inside as a preventative maintenance, never heard of this TRD gasket?

Interesting to learn about the gasket, tks.

If you don't mind spending a bit, I totally recommend getting a shift kit for the tranny, it made a huge performance difference.

I can't/won't be doing deckplate. The snorkel runs to an inline air filter. I checked with the guy at k&n who built my intake and the current setup is rated to over 350hp. That will have to do for now.

Honestly can't wait to turn the snorkel head around and hear what the growl sounds like with forced induction.

Ahh yeah that wouldn't work too well with a snorkel! It's not "necessary" by any means anyhow. Just more of a fun thing to do.

You actually won't hear much from the intake side of things. Where you WILL hear it is in the engine, gotta love that whiiiiine.

For fun I recommend putting a straight-through muffler instead of our stock baffled muffler. I have a Borla Pro XS and I love it. There's other brands you can pick up for sub $100 that are great too.

With the inline air filter the snorkel GROWLS at WOT right now. I imagine it will modify the sound somewhat I'm just not sure how.

And I have a Magnaflow on right now with turn down, but eventually will be doing headers and cat back when the fuel mods start coming.

How's the Magnaflow on a 3rd Gen? I had one on my 2nd Gen and it droned terribly from 2000-3000 RPMs. On top of that the welds broke so it started puffing. Maybe I just got a dud? Turned me off to Magnaflows completely though.

Hmm this is the second one I've ran and really like them. Gives it a aggressive tone without overdoing it. No complaints here.
