Price Check: 06 V8 Limited 4x4

Hey All-

I'm looking at moving from my 3rd gen of 7+ years over to a 4th gen. I have a limited amount of 4.7 V8 4th gen knowledge, so reaching out to the community at large. What are your thoughts on?

- 2006 V8 Limited 4x4
- 117k Miles
- Black
- Clean title, clean exterior, clean interior
- No records or sticker for timing belt change
- 3 Owners
- Stock everything

Asking price is $14,500.

Sounds like a decent deal. My sticker price was slightly higher than that in the pacific northwest. Same specs except it was a 2003. Just make sure to check everything under the rig for rust and look at possible deductions you can ask for. Mine test drove fine but within a week or two the steering box was so rusted it slowly stopped turning, until I had to get a tow. Now that I live in Oahu, I've had to pay thousands just to get little things to pass their crazy inspections (manifold leak, ect)... still, it was worth it, the engine runs smooth and strong.
Overall if everything checks out, I'd pay that... but I know different parts of the country could get it slightly cheaper. Just my two cents.

I bought a similar year and mileage 2006 SR5 v8 4x4 with 126k, 90k service done, leather for $14k or so out the door in June. Clean and tight as when it rolled off the line. The only problems so far have been:
TPS due to a nail in the tire;
Codes thrown from a bad gas cap seal. I assume that, as I haven't reset it yet.

I have a 2008 V6 4x4 SPORT that I just got a month ago (I love it!!). It has 112k miles and I paid $14k for it from a dealership trade-in plus tax and registration. The V6 4.0 liter engines have a timing chain which lasts a lot longer than a timing belt.
SPORT model benefits: X-REAS hydraulic suspension system, 17" rims, sportier tubular-style roof rack and running boards, a non functioning hood scoop for aesthetics, and a spoiler.
The Sport model, in my opinion, looks a lot beefier than the SR5. Highly recommended!!!

Sounds like a good deal. I got mine for $16k in Colorado last year, and I've seen similar ones listed at 18-22k (the latter was at the dealer). You could probably bring it to Colorado and sell it for a profit if you can avoid paying sales tax on the transaction.

It sounds like a good price if there are no issues. The issues add up real fast so it is really hard to tell if something is a good deal on here or not.

I bought an 05 4wd V8 Limited for what I thought was a good deal. I didn't think the needed maintenance and repairs would be too much but I was totally wrong. I think I have spent about $5K so far to fix this thing up.

I paid 7500 for a 04 V8 with 147K, but I spent 1,000 on timing belt, water pump, bushings, and some general maintenance after purchase. The only thing it needed in three years after purchase was to replace the transmission cooler line which was rusted and leaking, and replaced the exhaust with Gibson stainless.

Paid that same price 2 years ago except I have Sport edition and 98k miles. I think you could knock at least $1000 off that and it be a good deal. Decent as is.

I'm only offering this as a comparable for you. My local Toyota dealership has a 1-owner 2005 Sport Edition V8 4x4 with 150k on their lot right now. They want $11,500 for it. Obviously it's not the Limited Edition and it has higher mileage than the one you are looking at and they tend to sell for less where I live than elsewhere.

Other similar 4Runners in town are going for closer to the asking price of the one you are looking at but aren't Limited Editions.

So the 06 you are looking at is 1 year newer based on model year, 2-3 years newer based on mileage, and has the limited features. Based on this comparison, the one 06 you are looking at is looking pretty good.

That sounds pretty good. You could probably knock $1000 off like someone said because mines an 08 and right after we bought it with 106k, it needed the timing belt replaced. Just tell them they can get the replacement done or they can knock of 1k and you'll be getting a good deal.

If it's lived in Colorado all its life rust shouldn't be an issue. If it's from the rust belt keep looking.

It's past due for the timing belt and most people do the water pump at the same time. It probably also hasn't had the transmission serviced either which is due about the same time.

See if they'll do those for you or knock off the cost of doing those.

Is it from a dealer or private party? If dealer, try to get a new timing belt thrown in...

I'd say that's a fair price. I just bought my 07 Limited V8 4x4 from the original owner in CA for $14k with 113k miles. It has every possible option as far as I can tell, and came with a stack of service records from the local dealership including timing belt at 90k.

You should try to shave off $1000 or have them throw in a timing belt replacement. I wasn't able to find a comparable one at a dealer for less than $18k

It seems like many have rust issues. Mine was a CA car its whole life and has bad rust on the crossmember that the tow hooks and skid plate mount to. Strange.

I wonder what youse V8 folks are getting for MPG?

I'm averaging about 14-15 right now. But I'm still in the honeymoon phase. I still drag race the occasional overly modded civic.

Is OP even reading all this wisdom we are imparting on him/her?

I am getting 16.7 mpg (2005 V8 4x4) using it on my daily commute. 22 miles per day, half city, half congested toll road. I was doing about 17.5 before I lifted slightly and added roof rack. If reset on a long highway trip (75+mph) I can average over 18-19.
