Price Check?

Not sure if this is allowed...

I'm close to getting into another 4runner (previously had a 99 limited).

Came across a local trade in at a Toyota dealer, 03 V8 limited 4x4 with 111k on it and pending inspection I was able to negotiate it down to $9.5k OTD.

I believe the 90k service was done, interior is immaculate for its age (no rips or tears in the leather and not a single crack on the dash). Exterior is also in great shape for the age and mileage.

I am somewhat familiar with the engine and its drivetrain (was cross shopping for a GX470 due to the lack of V8 4runners around).

How does this deal sound? I know dealers and 4runners in general tend to have a "Toyota Tax" on them...

Car gurus has a tool you can use to try to value price check things, but yea if you like it I think it’s a fair price for a v8 4x4 with only 111k miles

Some areas 4r have a lot more value than others, but regardless seems like a good find

I think it's too much. I ran it on NADA using my SC zip code; presuming the price would be higher here due to no rust concerns. I plugged in every possible option except snow plow package, and put the mileage at 111k. The values looked like this:
Rough Trade-In $4,475
Average Trade-In $5,375
Clean Trade-In $6,100
Clean Retail $8,600

Based on that the most it would be worth is $8600. Me personally I never pay clean retail for anything. About 8 months ago I bought an 05 V6 SR5 4X4 with pretty high miles, (263K) but in fantastic shape. Granted it's a V6 and it has a LOT more miles but it is 2 years newer and it really is in excellent condition. Even had almost new Geolander tires on it. I paid $3000 for it. For me, they'd have to get down to around $7500 or I'd walk. But that's just me. Good luck either way.

A truck like that here in CA might run around 12k-13k, so I think that is a very fair price, almost a little too low in my opinion. For reference, I paid $8000 for my 07 V6 2WD with 130k and I still think I got a fair deal.

The market right now is very location dependent. Though it is fair for my neck of the woods (TX right now) others like you said are a bit inflated, but if you like you'll buy it! There was a 03 GX470 with 95k local here and was sold within a day online from someone from CA, didn't even get a chance to drive it.

While I agree its not a smokin' deal I do think its fair, based on the above. After browsing awhile (CarGurus, cars.com, autotrader and local classifieds) its pretty tough to find low mileage 4x4's that are within the average asking retail price. Maybe its about waiting and finding the right deal, but the "Toyota Tax" is heavy on these 4runners and Tacomas it seems. I appreciate the input.

I agree with you on this, it does seem very location dependent. Though with how easy it is to buy and either fly out or ship vehicles now it does seem like the overall market is tough for the V8's and 4x4, then again they don't make an engine like that anymore!.

Sounds like market average for CA. Can’t go by Cargurus or KBB since the clean 4x4s usually have high demand.

I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong. I thought that was too much based on NADA as well as what I payed for my high mileage 05 SR5 V6 4x4 ($3000). Makes me really happy about the deal I got on mine.

Edit to add: I realize mine's no where near the value of the one the OP asked about but it's probably worth close to twice what I paid for it.
