Price for a wrecked 3rd Gen?

Some of you may know from previous threads I've started in this section that I previously wrecked my beloved 5-speed manual 4runner in a snow storm two years ago.

To say the least I didn't get hurt, and I also didn't have full coverage insurance on the vehicle. I since then have decided to keep it as a spare parts/future project vehicle. In reality, it's just been something taking up garage space and I've decided to finally get rid of it.

The truck starts up like the day I bought it and drives just fine. The front roof area is smashed in, but the rear hatch opens and closes flawlessly. The 2000 4runner is a 5-speed manual, with approximately 165K miles on it. The frame is rust free due to it spending most of its life in Florida. It also has a Sonoran Steel 1.2 type lift on it (the rear shocks are OME shocks I believe). I have a clean title in hand for it as well. I figure it would make a good project truck, or may even be possible to restore if a body shop thinks it can pop the roof back out.

Given all this, what would you guys say a fair price for it is? I was thinking about posting it for $2000 on Craigslist, and maybe even on here to see if I get any bites on it. If I have trouble selling it online, how much can I expect to get for it if I take it to a junkyard (I've never done this before). Anyway, here are some photos I took of it today after it started right up and drove out of my garage.

If you want 2k you will need to part it out. I bought two Ins. totals that were totally driveable with only side body damage. I paid 700 for one and 900for one. Ins. totals are Perfect off road rigs becuase it just doesnt matter if you ding it or scratch it. In our area yours might be able to get $500 for it as it sits. Parting it out you could easily get your 2K.

Yeah, I'm in the process of getting rid of my 3rd Gens and upgrading to a 5th Gen!

Around here. Wrecked 3gens go for about $1200 at least. Kinda crazy. I've been trying to buy a rusted out 98 with a 5 speed and locker and blown head gaskets. Guy won't budge off of $2000. Frame and body/interior look like junk. Not worth it to me. Even for parts for a manual swap.

I think your best bet is parting it. I picked up my 3rd gen for 600 not wrecked and no problems or rust

WHY? If I had my choice of a NIB 3rd Gen or a NIB 5th Gen, i'd pay extra for the 3rd gen. But thats me. You'll be lucky getting 600-500.00 as is, parting it will garner greater returns. Good luck!

IMO looking at the pic's if somebody offers you $2K take the money and run. The interior is shot and it's really only worth what the hard parts are worth.

Salvage value at a junk yard will be way under what you might want.

I was looking over Olathe Toyota part center and u could purchase the roof skin and all of the internal supports. Sense it hasn't been claimed as a salvage vehicle and if u had the space or the time u could probably cut away the damaged roof and such and piece it back together and be back to normal with some time and welding.

What's this roof skin you speak of? The more and more I think about it, and after reading some of these responses, I'm considering taking it to a local offroad type fab shop and seeing what they can offer as a solution.

Now I know these are going to be expensive from the factory but you could find a roof skin off a another rig easy that been damaged below the roof making the skin perfect. Get the body supports pulled out and repaired and you're on the way... Plus I would like to see a new write up that hasn't been done before would be kinda cool. I've seen some rig that have been rolled and never repaired.

Wrecked and rolled gen3 4runners make me sad. Sorry for your loss. If the frame and suspension components are within spec, wheel that thing. 5sp runners are getting rarer every day. Just lost mine end of May. If it didn't drive, I'd say part it out.imho.

I rolled my 99 limited with an elocker and sold it for $500. It had 123xxx miles and minimum amount of rust. I was really sad but I sold it to my mechanic and he fixed it up. Popped out the roof and turned it into his dd, I still get to see it now and then and I miss it.
