Price Increase Coming For Toyota, Scion And Lexus

If you’re in the market for a new Toyota, Lexus or Scion, you may want to make a purchase decision soon. Toyota has announced price increases, ranging from just four-tenths of a percent on the Scion xD, up to 2.2 percent on the Toyota Sequoia.

Only the Tacoma compact pickup, Yaris sedan, Scion tC coupe, Scion xB crossover, Lexus CT 200h hybrid and Lexus LFA supercar remain at current price levels, at least for the time being.

Toyota announced the increases, which affect both Japanese-manufactured and American-manufactured vehicles, on March 31. No reason for the price increases was given, although it’s likely the automaker is looking to recover profit lost from production stoppages related to the situation in Japan.

For Toyota and Lexus models built in the United States, the price increase is effective with May 2011 production. For Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles built in Japan, prices will be increased on inventory arriving in May. The average price increase across all vehicle lines works out to be 1.7 percent, or $510 on a $30,000 purchase, so factor that in to your new vehicle purchase plans.

It might also have to do with the falling value (relative to other currencies) of the US Dollar. Printing money endlessly has its consequences. When more dollars chase fewer goods, each dollar is worth "less" than before.

This is also part of the reason for the price increase of oil on the world market.
