Pricing on 3rd Gens

I've been thinking about upgrading soon to something larger than my aging 3rd Gen (which I love, and which has been the most wonderful and reliable vehicle) to accommodate myself and my kids better. I'm not sure yet whether I'll keep or sell the 4Runner, and if I do sell I'll likely sell it to a family member.

Anyway, to the point, I was curious about what these things are going for these days. I bought my 2000 Limited in 2012 for $9,700 with a little less than 60k miles on it. I'm approaching 220k miles now. I did a search on AutoTrader for '00s and '01s, nationwide, and was absolutely shocked by some of the asking prices on these things. Hardly any were under $10k and probably more than half were over $20k! That's insane!

What I'm wondering is: Has anyone here sold one recently, or bought one? Are they really going for prices like that?

I purchased a clean 2000 Limited 4WD with rear locker this past Friday. It has been well maintained, no rust, with 158K mileage and Weather Tech front and rear liners. It does have a spot on the hood that needs touching up. I paid $9,200 and it runs like a champ. I already a 2000 SR5 4WD with 208,000 that is not a daily driver. I use it to drive on the beach for surf fishing at Cape Hatteras, NC. I spray the frame and rails twice a year with Fluid Film.
I plan to use this new one that I just purchased as a beach vehicle too in the future. There is a new product called Blaster Surface Shield that I plan to apply on this one when the weather warms up this Spring.

Ok, that is unbelievable. How are they selling for 2x what I bought mine for, 11 years ago? I guess most of those do seem to be in very good condition, and mine has a good deal of wear, but I still wonder what I could get for it now.

If I could make a killing on my 200K mile '97, what would I get instead? I thought about Subarus, but the mileage isn't any better., so why put up with the tiny size and poor ground clearance? A newer 4th gen 4Runner would be no significant advantage either, but I haven't checked the prices on those. I could get a pretty good 100K mile used Camry....nah...never mind.

Haha, I do love my 4Runner dearly. But I have 5 kids now, and can't fit more than 2 in the 4Runner. So far I've only needed to fit the two oldest (4 and 6) for camping trips, but soon enough #3 will be old enough to want to go too, so I need to get something bigger eventually.

The 5th Gen 4runner have a 3rd row seat option also rav4 and sequoia. The rav4 hybrid has better gas milage.

We have a '21 Sienna that we use for family trips. It's a hybrid, and gets pretty good mileage, and I really like it as well. But I can't take that down some of the roads I take for camping trips. I've looked at the Sequoia, but the Gen 2 is a big gas hog. I'd been hoping the Gen 3 would be better since it's a hybrid, but really think it's kind of disappointing since the mileage is barely better, and the cargo volume is really reduced due to the hybrid battery.

Haha well whatever I get is going to be 4x4, no doubt. I can't live without that. I do want to keep the 4Runner - I'm just worried that if I get a shiny new truck or SUV, the 4Runner is going to sit and never get used. I keep telling myself I'd take the 4Runner out wheeling sometimes, but I don't know if that's realistic.
