problem with a faint rattle at mid to high speed.

I hear a rattle at around 30-40 mph and also at highway speeds. Sounds like its coming from the driver side. It's apparent on throttle and coasting. The only culprit I can think of is the Plastic Mud Guards up in the wheel well? They seem very loose and make a noise when I tap on it. Should those black snap on pins be loose? Could they have been made loose when they installed the TRD suspension at port?

Very likely. If you figure out which are lose you can go to the stealership and get a replacement snap retainer. It will cost you a couple bucks but I have found they can get loose or in my case rubbed almost/all the way off (wheel rubbing at full stuff).

I had a noise similar to what you described. My noise was at freeway speed and sounded like it was coming from down around my feet. I had somebody wiggle the rubber shields in the fender wells while I sat inside. The noise sounded exactly the same. The push pin rivets Toyota uses to attach the rubber shields to the body are extremely loose fitting. I had some push pin rivets for a Mercedes the were the perfect size and fit very tightly. I replaced the two top rivets on both sides of the vehicle and I haven't heard the noise since.

I First confirmed by tapwing down the flap... and Viola! no more sound. Took it to toyota to have them pop in the Black rivet type instead... But they put the white door panel type there(they didnt have any black clips that size)

Do you have the Mercedes Part # for those clips by chance? would really appreciate it

I had the same problem and I wrapped a small piece of pipe cleaner around each loose plastic rivit, from a suggestion here on the forum.

It was driving me nuts. Took the slop out of those little clips and all is well again

I have a snug fit and its fixed, but i think i have OCD or something.. he used a green clip and a white one and im not digging it.. just want the factory black look

What a timely thread revival. Just had a new suspension install and I've been hearing this faint vibration/rattle from the passenger side fender when in reverse. I'll definitely take a look here for starters!

Huge shout out to OP for posting this question. Have had this problem and it's been driving me crazy. The pins were absolutely the culprit. About to drive from TX to AK and this would have driven me absolutely insane. So happy this is solved!:reddance:

OCD might drive you crazy but when you resolve the issue that is driving you mad, you get a better sense of satisfaction then those with out OCD.

Same rattle was driving me nuts... after thinking it was mechanical, I came across this post, fastened up the mud guards, and noise is gone. Thanks!
