Problem with new brakes

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone on here has had problems with any brands of brakes as far as the Tundra upgrade?

I recently ordered a brake kit for my 99 4Runner from Detroit Axle. I ordered the one for a 2000-2003 Tundra with the 4.7” pads.

When I tried to bolt the caliper back on, the mounting ears were 2mm off. The caliper would be off center. I took the new rotor off a replaced my old one, and it was fine.

In case some want to know, yes, the hub surface was clean.

It seemed like it was machined too thick?

Sounds like they are the wrong ones, never heard of anyone on here having that trouble, they have other troubles with the "big brake upgrade".

I stuck to the 12" OEM size, no troubles what so ever and stop on a dime when I want to.

Sorry I do not.

I was in a crunch to put them back together so I had a vehicle.

The best was to describe it is, when the rotor was on the hub, the mount ears on the caliper would line up about 2-3 mm toward the hub. Basically the caliper would not go on straight.

I hope to hear from the seller soon.

As in if you had a washer you could put it between the caliper and the knuckle where the two bolt together?

No, that wasn’t the case. It was the caliper was too wide, meaning, the mounting ears were hitting end to end. If I tried to put the caliper on, it would go out of alignment and the outer pad would jam on the face of the rotor

Looking at Detroit Axle's site, it doesn't look like they sell calipers, so from what you have given us, it sounds like you bought 2003 Tundra rotors and pads and tried to install them on a 99 4Runner with stock calipers. The Tundra rotors are a different size and won't fit with the stock 4Runner calipers.

Update

I got ahold of Detroit Axle this morning.

I explained what I encountered with my brakes. The customer service rep looked up the part number and quickly let me know it was definitely the wrong rotors.

I have arranged an exchange.

The customer service was excellent and the quality of the components is great too.
