Problem with Softex seat cover

Took mine to the dealer, they fixed it under warranty.
Lasted a few weeks, then it's back at it again.

Usually don't have people in the backseat, but I think this happens as I'm folding up/down the backseat.

I'll try the above solution, or try to rig it myself. Dealer doesn't seem to be too concerned about fixing this versus other things that cross their path on a daily basis.

Working on the Softex seat

I tried to remove the entire back seat but was only stripping the bolt, so I decided to work on it with the seat attached. Its very annoying aligning the rails and the clips but I started from one side then worked my way to the other. I'm letting the glue cure now as I type this.

Finished, Now hoping it holds forever. Funny thing is as soon as I finished this side, I noticed the smaller seat began to slip down lol. I guess I gotta do that side too

I have a 2018 TRD ORP I bought in October of 2017. Seat cover has come off twice now. Can't believe they haven't fixed this yet. Making an appointment with the dealer today.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue. I bought the interior protection plan, so I hope they are willing to fix it correctly.

UPDATE: They dealership couldn't fix it, so they ordered new softex and are going to re-upholster the backseat. All under warranty. I don't know if it's the factory warranty or the interior protection plan I purchased. No questions asked.

Same here, brought it into Bergstrom of OSHKOSH, WI, and following notification that my certified used Toyota bump-to-bumper warranty ran out on June 28th, 2019, the dealer submitted it to Toyota for consideration. I have just over 40K miles on my 2016 trail premium, and the other day I noticed the Softex was not attached to the bottom of the front right side of the rear seat. I started to look at it and I could feel a 1/4” diameter steel rod that the plastic extrusion on the edge of the Softex was meant to clip to, but the extrusion was broke and there was also the seat bottom molding that is part of the assembly. I could not get it together. So I took it to the dealer and they said the entire seat cover would need to be replaced for $970! They took photos and are submitting it to Toyota for replacement on their dime. So I wait, for as some have mentioned a plastic extrusion failure on a $40K Toyota 4Runner w/40K miles to be covered by the manufacturer. I car pool, and friends say; “what with the seat cover?” I tell them, but based on the outcome Toyota either will have new customers, or have lost potential customers. I just hope Toyota has not forgot how to delight their customers.? This truck was build in Japan, I expect Toyota to come through and pay for the repair. It seems like a pretty shitty design, in light that I helped design the USA’s DoD JLTV light tactical wheeled vehicle. The last thing I, or the customer expects are the f$&@ing seats to fall apart. We’ll keep you updated. In the meantime I bought a roll of black Gorilla Tale, just in case. What has happened to “Toyota Quality”?

My rear seat did the same thing and I brought it to the attention of the Toyota Rep that helped me upon arrival at the dealership for my 20K miles oil change. They had their upholstery guy look at it and he said replace it. They ordered a new one and I go in next Thursday to have them replace it. I will let you know how it all goes.

New seat cover installed at the dealership today. Hope this one doesn't break loose.

I just noticed that my rear seat is undone again. The softex material is unhooked in the same area again, however this time the semi-rigid shell (not sure what to call it) that is on the underside of the seat is also hanging off in multiple spots too.

...Hopefully the dealer does a better fix this next time.

I’m having the same problem with my 2017 SR5. Both the rigid bottom and the soft Tex seat cover are coming off. Dealer tried to reattach the cover but it keeps happening. Taking it in again next week but I’m not too optimistic. Considering going the glue and clamp route…. Did you get yours completely repaired? Thanks!

I had the same problem on my 2003. I took the seat out and used heavy duty zip ties to fix the problem. That lasted 3 years until I sold the 2003. I hope my 2015 TEP doesn't do the same, but I know I can fix it myself rather quickly if it does.

Reviving an old thread here and looking for a little clarification. I pulled my rear bench out to fix this issue on my 2014 Trail and can see how the plastic clip gets folded around. Is the gorilla glue then applied between the outside of the clips where they are up against the inside of the Softex?

Any issues with the glue bleeding through? And has this been the best solution?
