Problem with Softex seat cover

The dealership had to replace the 60% side of my back seat due to the clips coming off. It is tight as a drum now. Just had it done about 2 weeks ago.

I would look very closely at your back seats. Dealer said if it comes off once it will most likely come off again.

I picture would be great , I checked my 15 and it looks ok. If I'm looking in the correct spot

You can't miss it, if your seat portion of the cover looks loose & it's not snug & clipped to the frame then your in the same boat.

After 2 years of having my 2015 SR5, this is the only issue that I have experienced.
Bringing in for service, will see about getting the 60% rear seat fixed.
The other issue is the infotainment locked up 3 times. The fix is to hold in the power button/volume knob....that seems to reset it, then works again.

Much less issues than my Mini.

I started having this issue with my 2014 as well. I was able to re-attach the cover and it would stay for a while but now it just pops right off. Looks like I will be taking it to the dealer as well. The last resort will be hog rings but hopefully the dealer can get it right.

Infotainment lockup... Have you had the software updated? Mine was doing the same... Solution seems to be software update via the dealer. I just had mine done, so I cannot comment on longevity of fix (yet).

Same issue With my seats

Having the same issue with my seats.

they fixed it once. took some cargo.. and the seat did it again, anyone get a replacement seat? dont have time to keep going back to have them correct it.

Yes, the software update has so far fixed the infotainment. I should've had them look at the seat at the same time but it slipped my mind. I do have a Friday appointment for the seat though. Hoping for a quick, easy, and permanent fix.

They had to re-seat the 60% part of my rear seat. The dealer said if it comes off once it will again and it is not easy to put back on.

So it's expected/normal to them ? Might as well opt in for the warranty you had a connect with. You still got the contact info for that ?

You have a PM!!!!

They said it is fairly common and if it does pop off really the only true fix is replacement. They reattached it once but that only lasted 2 months. They said when it comes off again it will be replaced and that is what they did, tight as a drum now and had it fixed for about a year now.

Yea, my appointment is next Saturday.
I am hoping they can fix it. If not, there will be an open warranty case on it, and will push it along/escalate.

Did the same with my wife's Infiniti FX. Got all the issue resolved right before the warranty ran out. Got one year left on the 4Runner.

In regards to the firmware update. The last sales advisor was a couple sandwiches short a picnic. He had no clue what a firmware update was.
I really do want to get this fixed. It also locks up when I am on a phone call. Eventually reboots, and I can connect again. Just annoying.

All in all, the 4Runner is very reliable.
No mechanical issues to think of, just more of annoyances.

by the way, do you have the release notes on the latest firmware update?
looking to see what fixes are addressed with the latest code.

Hi,

I have a 2015 TRDP purchased back in January. It has the Softex seats, and I'm noticing a very frustrating thing happening with the rear passenger seat. The seat cover seems to be coming undone at the bottom of the seat where the Softex cover wraps around and tucks underneath the bottom of the seat. This happened a few weeks ago, and I was able to re-tuck the cover back in and fix it myself. I initially thought I had caused the issue as I hauled some large cargo a few days earlier and thought I may have banged the cargo up against the bottom of the seat while I had the second row folded down. However, I just noticed the same issue has reoccurred. This time I was not hauling any loads. It seems the Softex cover is working itself loose and coming undone. The cover is only held in place by the tension of being stuffed under the bottom of the seat.

This is neither the quality I was expecting in a 40K+ vehicle nor the quality I'd expect from Toyota. Had my '99 4Runner for 16 years and never had any quality issues like this on that one.

Has anyone else seen this happening? If so, how did you fix it? Any suggestions?

It's actually good timing as I have my 5000 miles service appointment with Toyota this Friday, so will definitely be bringing this up to them. I'll post back what they say and do.

I noticed the same thing yesterday with my rear seat while cleaning them.
I noticed the material at the bottom of the seat was not tucked like it should be. I tried to re tuck the material, but that did not work. I took it to the dealership, they are about 2 miles from my place, and talked to my sales guy about it. His did the same thing and said there is a plastic clip that broke that needs to be replaced. The service department ordered the replacement part for me.
He also said that he has seen where the replacement part has been improperly installed where the seat material was over stretched when installed and would not ever be correct. In those cases they had to order the material and redid the seat.

Had the seat repaired (for now) a couple weeks ago and so far it's holding up. The service dept. said if it comes undone again they will order a new cover and clips.

I just noticed that my rear seat is undone again. The softex material is unhooked in the same area again, however this time the semi-rigid shell (not sure what to call it) that is on the underside of the seat is also hanging off in multiple spots too.

...Hopefully the dealer does a better fix this next time.

I have a 15 TEP, was having the same problem with the rear passenger seat. I took the whole seat for closer inspection and found that the plastic clip was not properly cut in several places where it needs to be cut due to the metal frame. I just took a pair of heavy scissors and cut small segments of plastic where it was interfering with the metal. I then tucked it back in and it seems solid now. Wish i had taken pictures, but it really is a simple fix if you take the seat out. You wouldnt be able to do this with the seat in place in the truck due to the awkward angles.
