i will miss driving the 4R and will have to deal with driving a peasant Dodge Journey rental vehicle in the meantime. at least i wasn't at fault.

long story short: guy driving semi truck almost hit me at 50mph and instead swerved toward right lane where he clipped a tow truck. behind the semi was a red pickup driver who wasn't paying attention and ended up hitting me (which was a rental so he's screwed if he didn't opt for such protection!)


oh and i chose my local stealership for bodywork repair

At least yours was only damaged on one end. Mine didn't fare as well. It has been two weeks since I have been in a rental and should have my truck back next week.

Me too. The initial estimate came in at the mid $9k range. The shop did some tear down and found more damage than what was on the estimate along with some missing paint time for blending panels. The supplement that the shop turned in was for $2,800+. According to the insurance company, if it came up to $12k they would total it. Apparently they "fudged" the numbers so they wouldn't have to do all the paperwork to total it.
 
Glad you're ok and it wasn't worse!

.. and Cisco, I hit a deer with my TSX last spring. Insurance adjuster cited 9k in repairs and was signed off. Had to readjust when it came time to reinstalling all the parts. Radiator supports were bent along with a few other things unseen. Added another 3k in repairs. He said if he would have done it right the first time, they would have just totaled my car out, but since parts and paint was pretty much done, insurance paid out.

Glad you're okay after an accident like that! I actually had front end damage but it's pretty much filled with paint chips.

basically the guy in front of me slammed on his brakes which i did the same in return until i got hit from behind. when i got hit from behind, i rammed into the back of his trailer where there was a notable dent on the bottom afterwards. funny thing is that he got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage and did not bother asking any drivers involved to see if they were okay. after 3m he just drove off without waiting for state police to come...what an *******

Thanks Zebuaj! I was actually on my way to see the GF and continued my journey unscathed driving the 4Runner - thankfully it was drivable ;)
 
My recommendation: do everything you can to research a competent body shop. My recent experience was absolutely miserable. I wish I had better advice on where to take my car.
 
Just got mine back after a month long. Front end damage at around 8k. Was able to convince the shop to get me the 2006+ projector headlights. LoL:hurt:
 
[MENTION=107314]Cisco Kid[/MENTION], I didn't see if your airbags deployed? Was the crash small enough to not deploy them?

Anyone know usually the time to get them replaced? Mine is approaching 12 years old now.

It was pretty scary and to be frank with you I was ready for the hard impact but never considered the possibility of him swerving because of traffic conditions on the road so thankfully he did just that. Probably saved me from medical injuries at least.

Congrats on your son's admission to VT! I graduated in '13 so I haven't had time to update my info here on T4R forums, haha. He's going to have a blast in Blacksburg with classes and of course our beloved Hokies program. Can't wait to see Coach Fuente in action. However considering the fact you are a parent of a Hokie here on T4R forums, is it fair to assume he's a future Engineering major if he hasn't decided already? Haha.

I currently live in Virginia Beach but relocating to Northern VA near DC area. I go through Charles Barker for my local needs but recently had my new 4R serviced in Northern Virginia at a dealership called Koon's Toyota. The one you see in the picture is actually the new 4Runner I purchased a little over a month ago and had PPI done through Koons prior to taking possession of it.

Great truck, zero issues at the time of purchase and I couldn't be any more happier with the vehicle.

[MENTION=109409]chompster4runner[/MENTION] - congrats! how did your truck look coming out of the shop? This truck will need front and rear paint work so I'm anxious to see how it turns out once they complete repairs on it!

I think the accident knocked my truck straight or when i had to replace one of the old bf goodrich to a new KO2. In which i had them replaced all to new KO2s because i won't be riding dirty..hehe. so it has been tracking straight on the freeways. Might be a better design on the KO2s. IDK..

Fortunately the airbags did not blow since most of the impact was above the front crash bar. The shop is supposed to have it done and back to me by the end of the week.
