Hello, 4Runners

I am a proud new owner and a new member of the Yota family. I have a slight problem. The Yota that I bought was seriously mistreated by a young man. He blew out her transmission, my baby's broken. I have been looking for several weeks for a used transmission. She is a 1990 SR5 4x2, A.T. V6, 3.0 L, w/ cruise contrl. I live in Daytona Beach Fl, and I'm in dire need of a good condition used tranny at a good price, I'm not going to low ball you. I will find a way to get to you if you do not live close, I want and need her running very badly. If you could please contact me I would reallllyy greatly appreciate it. Please and Thankyou very much for your time.

Thankyou for Your Time,

Tks CodeButcher for your reply, there's one slight problem, she's a 4x2, Automatic tranny, and now I might need a new stall converter, my neighbor insisted of finishing putting it in while I went to work, his dad even said it was ok. So Very resiliently I said ok, and went to work. I got home and my neighbor came over and said that he finished putting it in and he said that it was grinding. And instead of him shutting it off he revved the engine until it stopped. I wanted to smack this kid, not to mention kill, him, I went an immediately got his dad, and his dad, said what's the problem, I told his dad, that he either ruined the stall converter bc of the splines not being lined up or the splines on the tranny it's self. I might be a female, but I do know what I'm doing and now I have to take out the whole thing and see which part he ruined. So I'n not really happy with my neighbor and he is going to pay for which ever one he ruined. I even told his dad that you backed him on this so now you can help him pay for it. So I'm back to the drawing board again.

Tks for your reply,

A while back my buddy bought a 2nd gen 2WD T4R. The engine was so bad the connecting rod was sticking out side of the block. That said, he needed a new engine. We found a few at the local junkyards with tranmissions, that he did not need. I know of at least half a dozen ATs in my area alone, without looking on CL. I surprised you can't find one in a local junkyard.

Let me see if I'm understanding this. You let your neighbor HELP you get your 4runner back up and going. He did this work for FREE, right? He installed the transmission and he didn't line up the splines right on the torque converter? I may be misunderstanding but you cannot install and bolt down a transmission to the back of an engine without having the splines lined up on the transmission input shaft to the torque converter. Either way, this kid wanted to help you. You agreed. Now that things aren't going the way you had expected, THEY have to pay for it?

Am I the only one here that thinks this is a bit F*cked up? I am assuming not since this thread has had minimal replies.

:iagree: How are you going to make him pay for it if you can't prove he did it? haha I doubt you and him had paperwork for the work he did. He was trying to help you, things didn't go your way and now you are going to try to screw him over for it? I agree with SV, that's f*cked.

Yes, I did have him/ them sign something and the only thing that was bad was the guide teeth on the pump, which was the outside pump, I might be a female but I wasn't born yesterday. Him and his dad both signed an agreement to help me. His dad was optional. I even told his dad that he didn't have to. My neighbor isn't really a kid but he's young enough to be my son. So to me he's a kid. He's in his last term at Yota Tech. So him offering to help was a logical solution, but his help was seriously restricted. He ruined the pump on his own. The agreement that I asked them not forced them to sign was for him and or his dad to help me get it on the jack, that's all, nothing more. I went inside to get ready for work and when I heard the rubbing noise I knew in a split second the damage was already done. And I'm not taking a tranny jack, I'm talking a regular plain jane hydraulic jack, with a pump handle. Not to bolt it in place. I have grown up in my dad's mechanic shop so I know that you have to put the converter in the bell first before you can put it on the jack, It's two sometimes three clunks till it's in place. That once you get the whole kit and kaboodle in place and lined up with the fly wheel That once the converter is in place and then if the fly wheel turns freely then the converter is all the way in but you have to manually turn the motor by hand and to do that you have to take out the spark plugs to release the pressure first and then go from underneath and turn the fly wheel on little bit at a time. I spent my summers in my dad's garage. I had nothing else to do other than sit and watch and learn. My dad always woke me up at the crack of dawn and took me with him during the summers. He would say to me that since your here you might as well learn from it. So by the time that I was 14, I was changing tires, timing belts, disassembling bottom ends, oils and taking off heads of engines, and on the bright side I am able to fix just about anything on my vehicle on my own. Since this is my first Yota, which I have been almost dying to get I wasn't quite sure where to find a good used tranny. I did my homework and looked around. I found out that the local savage yard was going to have a 50% off sale for black friday. So I paid the admission fee, just to look around and see what they had. There it sat a very well cared for 1994 T4R, and I check the tranny numbers on the door jamb which I had to pry the door open since the poor thing was T-boned, and found a tranny match. Mine is a G072-A340E I went back the next day waited. My parents are retired and on vacation so I have use of their vehicle while they were gone. The really hard part was find plastic bags big enough to fir the whole thing in. Thank god for bicycle gift bags the reallly big gift bags that you can put bikes in. I was first in line for them to open and went in and pulled the whole thing, converter and all. As a woman of average stature that was not easy. I found seven spare tires and some junk wire that I tied to the spare tires that it was on when I was finally able to pull it out from under the poor smashed T4R. (may she/he rust in peace for being an organ donor) that I could lay it on and move it around on my own with out needing assistance. I couldn't lift my arms the next day but I did it by myself. I pulled the whole thing even the converter. So with that cleared up he only had to pay for the gas to go to discount and to get the o-ring for the outside pump, since the pump on my old tranny was still good I swapped them out. So I'm sorry for any mis--understanding, but He actually got off easy. Bc, the agreement that they both signed was to only help me put it on the jack, not to jack it up into place and bolt it in. I just didn't have the upper arm strength to pull that whole tranny on the jack all by myself. So that's when I asked them to help. I have other equipment that I have to carry on my chest 24 x 7, 365, so I really don't have the upper arm strength to do it. But I'm sorry for any misunderstanding and no it was not a lie. I felt quite uneasy being the only woman in a salvage yard not knowing who was going to come around the other vehicles. That 4-iron was never out of my reach for even a second. Imagine this, for those of you who are married, and something happened to you, and your wives had no other choice but to do it on their own. How do you think that they would feel being the only woman in a salvage yard. The only thing that was the worst was the cross member bolts, omg!!!, those things are on there!!. I had to put all of my weight and with a breaker bar on the to get them to crack loose. It didn't help that the one side was mangled. I was determined and I'm finishing my master's degree. 90% of my money goes towards school. Which right now I'm skyping to participate in class since I live 1.5 hrs from campus. My professor's patience is almost out with me skyping. So I had no other option other than to do it completely on my own. But she's up and running and when my other half finds out that I did this all on my own he's, yes he's going to not only be impressed and proud of me but also relieved that he didn't have to do it. I'm glad that I spent the time and the amount of tears and cuts and scrapes, and bloody knuckles to get her up and running. Here in Daytona Beach Fl. T4R's are reallllllllyyy rare to come by in the salvage yards. But all total, including the tranny fluid the cost was drum roll please...... $87.54, the tranny only cost me $ 62.50, with the converter. So I don't think that I did half bad for a woman. doing homework pays off. Ps. it's not nice t laugh at some one if you don't know the whole story. k, but tks for reading, and hope every one had a great holiday,

thks for your replies, but I found one on sale and it was only $ 62.50. I know my last post was tooo long and I'm sorry for that but I wanted to tell the whole thing instead of having some one laugh at me for what they thought was being either stupid, or neive, so I'm sorry for the long post and tlks for your replies.

Since i took the time to read it, i'm going to have to agree with SV_Dude. Curious why you actually had them sign a piece of paper to put a tranny on a jack though.... personally i wouldn't do it if i had to sign a stupid piece of paper. But if you felt uneasy you could've just said 'no'. They just wanted to help, if you were unsure then there's no reason for them to even touch your truck. Lesson learned for you i guess though. Glad to hear things worked out though.
