PSA Beware of Eagle Eye tail lights 07+

So I smashed a tail light on the trail.

I found some on Amazon for $78 or so... I was like "sweet! not that expensive I can keep on rolling."

So I get it in and install it, the threaded studs don't line up with the holes in the truck. The threads grind the holes as you push it in.

Next, the side of the tail light doesn't fit flush with the back of the truck. It sits lower than the body.

So far, these problems are not what I would consider deal breakers. Nobody will ever know about the studs or notice the fitment.

But this morning I notice the LED's aren't as bright as OEM.
So if you get one, you might as well get both if you want it to match. I'm kinda OCD about lights and how they look, and this is driving me nuts.

That's why I spent the money on Toyota OEM LED tails for my old '03. I tried an aftermarket set first and they were garbage. Sure it's double the price for the Toyota part, but worth every penny IMO.

My truck has had repairs done to it by the previous owner. No idea what happened but... the tail light I removed had a "Certifit Replacement Part" sticker on it. So I assume its a higher quality non-OEM replacement. :dunno:

So now I have to make a decision. Do I buy the other one to make them match or do I buy a OEM quality replacement for the crap one.

To add insult to injury, I already smoked the taillight. So i cant return it.

What did you use to smoke it? If it was the VHT nighshade spray or similar, throttle body/carburetor cleaner removes it.

I upgraded to the newer taillights and bought the ones off eBay from discountbodyparts. They were about $80 each and they fit up perfect for me and the LEDs look identical to the OEM versions. I bought them individually because it saved me about $20 even with shipping...

It was VHT, but I lightly scuffed the lens before painting. :doh:

If you buy a pair, I'm sure it's fine. But if you have one on one side and OEM on the other, its different.
