Pulled the trigger on an '04 V8...

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions this past week. The specific limited '04 V8 sold the day before I went to check it out. I lucked out with another one in town that I thought had sold, but the deal fell through.

I picked up this SR5 trim 2004 yesterday. Was a single owner vehicle who had a lot of highway driving from his commute 3 hours away. I was able to talk the Ford dealer who was selling this down $2500 from the asking price and walked away paying $10,500. The interior is pristine, but the timing belt may or may not need to be changed. This was accounted for in my price negotiations. More pics to come, as this 4Runner isn't slated to stay bone stock for long.

new toy looks great! what are your plans?

Tin didn't know you were a Knox local, I think I have spotted you before, looks good!

Thanks man! I'm probably the only Runner with black 'Dipped rims you'll see running through the Hardin Valley/Karns area, at least to my knowledge lol

Not a bit! - LOL -

The thing that's great about white is it doesn't show trail pinstripes like a dark color does. People are always surprised at how nice my truck looks (until they get close and see it really looks like crap.)

That is why I got silver. Not as good at hiding pin striping as white, but much better than the blues & blacks.

First and foremost getting the t-belt service taken care of. I am making a reasonable assumption that it has not been changed since there's no record, but even if it were changed and there's no record I feel like the Toyota dealership I take it to won't tell me that and just do it anyway....kinda sucks how that works, but oh well.

After that, Bilstein 5100s all around are the plan. I have a new set of OME 896 rear coils, and I know they are HD but I'm having trouble selling them to someone so I can get the mediums. Otherwise I will just swap them in. I have a roof rack that weighs about 45 lbs and a bike rack of about 45 lbs too, so that's only 90 lbs extra weight, not enough to warrant the HD...so we'll see.

I'm also trying to figure out if I should use the stock coils with the 5100s up front. Should I go with Eibachs or OME 895s? Theres so much information for/against either that I cant really decide. I plan to do a mild 2" rear lift and have seen a lot about FJ coils, but they seem to be about the same amount of $$ as OME and less easy to come by for me.

From there, the build plans are limitless. Suggestions are welcome. :D

Can't really go wrong with either considering you have adjustable shocks.

Can you provide any insight to the benefits. I'v already read the threads on this, but it's hard to definitively say what makes the most sense. I want to go with Bilstein 5100s versus the OME shocks/coilovers.

I have a V8 so that is extra weight...not sure if the front stock coils compensate for this versus what a V6 may have up front as far a spring rate, etc. goes.

Are the stock front coils going to cause an issue pairing them with 5100s and setting at either .85 or 1.75 setting? I ask this because they were intended for non adjustable oem coilovers when installed in factory.

Also, I've heard that eibach is "recommended" (read: toytec) for the 5100s as compared to 885 OME coils perhaps.

Put it this way, I dont plan to do any extreme off roading or wheeling, want to have some lift in the front to match what I plan to do in the rear (~2") but also dont want a ride that is too squishy or too stiff...If the stock coils can provide for this great...1) b/c I already have them (time/effort) and 2) b/c I already have them ($$$).

The Eibach being recommended is more so than anything because OME shocks are tested specifically with OME shocks. I have a post about this somewhere, you may be able to find it.

There's been plenty of comments on both Eibach and OME for this 5100 application. It seems like more people are still going with OME 885. I understand this coil will work with any of the adjustable settings, but the eibach will only work with two due to it's height and spring rate.

With the added weight of a V8 (i've heard about 100 lbs more than V6) would one make more sense than the other? What about if I plan to run OME Medium 895 in the rear or something equivalent. I had the 2nd gen mediums in my '94 and liked them.

I'd say OME, honestly. I see more people run OME than Eibach, so there must be a reason why.
