Pulling somebody out of a ditch

No issues, just thinking ahead. If I have to pull somebody out of a ditch do I want to be going forward or reverse? 4wd and no winch BTW.

Forward is generally preferred. Use a good strap. Have all people clear of the area that could get whipped by a breaking strap/chain.

In most situations the vehicle being pulled will 'load' the rear wheels of the T4R and you'll end up close to an optimal weight distribution giving you the best chance of pulling the stuck vehicle. Another factor is the driveline components are stronger going forward than backwards.

Is there ever a situation when you'd pull somebody hooking up to the front of your vehicle? Maybe. If that situation arises be gentle and be smart and you'll be fine. I have done it several times but pulling from the back is preferred.

I always liked and think you should always pull forward id possible , but I have had to do it in reverse at times.

I've used a borrowed shackle receiver , but want to but a complete recovery kit if I can find a decent one at a decent price.

Yap yap. pull it forward, reverse is not a good idea because it might break the 3rd member. Which isn't all to good. Also, the forward gears are abit stronger than reverse. =)

Do Not use chain as recovery gear, unless you neeed new rear glass or body panel. Recovery Straps are cheap and available in lot of truck stores.
