Would really love to get some opinions regarding pulsating tire noise with NEW tires.
Just recently bought new Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks, 285/70r17. I have a 3 inch Eibach Stage 2 lift.
Had Nitto Ridge Grappler 265/70r17 previously.
In my limited experience, mud tires, some beefier AT's, and hybrids with chunky tread columns make a hum noise to a varying degree...depending on the tire. I accept this.
However, my question to everyone is...Should they (or can they) make a pulsating noise? When new?
Mine are! Tire shop AND Toyota dealer have spent lots of time trying to help me figure it out. But they are all new, balancing well, nothing out of round or wrong with them, they road forced them as well...can't find anything wrong. I can deal with the hum noise...that's just the tread noise that comes with these types of tires. But I feel like they shouldn't be making a pulsating noise brand new. I'm in the process of switching the spare around the truck to try and isolate the noisier of them if I can. But I can't seem to isolate any one tire. On the other hand, how would it be more than one? Wouldn't they be asynchronous in terms of the noise if it were several or all of them? Driving me a little nuts...I think the shops have genuinely tried to help me, but maybe they think I'm being picky somewhat. Maybe theyre right. They can hear it too, and there's even a very slight shimmy to the truck with it. And theyre all well balanced! The shops say they think it's within a certain tolerance for this type of tire and I shouldn't stress over it.
Just wondered if any of you have experienced anything like this with your tires. Again, I'm in the process of switching the spare around (which is also a new rugged trek) to see if I can figure it out. Maybe I just need to quit worrying and move on?
