Put an elocker in 01/02 sport?

Hi guys,
So, working on taxes, and thinking it may be time to trade my 97 2wd for a newer, less miles, 4wd. Looking at the buyers guide, it looks like I am settled for the most part on the 01/02 sport. Love the look. But, it didn't have the option of an e-locker. Can one be put in there, or would it interfere with the vsc/trac? I saw that the earlier limited, came with multimode/ elocker, but that was before the vsc/trac. If I did the andymod, would it allow the elocker to work? Reason I ask, is as these trucks are getting older, I want to get the newest and fewest miles on one I can. Would love that e locker though.

the elocker can be installed on an '01/'02 model year 4Runner. There was thread in YT about it done by a guy who swapped his wife's elocker onto his '01 or '02 model year 4Runner

I'd do it without trying to integrate the harnesses - just wire it straight to a switch in the dash. If your VSC/TRAC whizbangery doesn't know it's there it can't interfere, right?

Why do you NEED vsc/trac???? Not sure if you realize this but you live in Florida. If I had a choice between an 01/02 or a later model with an elocker, I would take the elocker any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

But if you really really need a 4runner with vsc/track, then pick up an 01/02, throw a lunchbox in it and call it a day. Otherwise if you want "newest" I suggest you consider a fifth gen

I'd go with an Aussie Locker or a Detroit TruTrac LSD (what I have). Cheaper, easier to install, and just about as effective. I understand the Aussie clicks and sometimes jerks in turns and stuff, but the TruTrac is smooth as silk - I never know it's there on the highway, but definitely do off road.

Newest doesn't mean the latest. It means lower miles and not fixing once a week. I do carry lots of camping gear, bikes, boats, dead animals when hunting, trailers, and various other dirty, heavy work equipment. No room for a lunchbox.

This is definitely something to consider. I guess I had the blinders on a bit toward keeping it Toyota branded, but if it wasn't offered, I could have done this anyway.

I hope she didn't need it later, could you see that kitchen fight? Honey, if it wasn't for swapping out my locker, I could have gotten unstuck and not walked 25 miles through the swamp and woods! Dang, you walked all the way through, you must be the devil! Lmao!!

He's talking about a lunchbox locker, i.e. Aussie, Lockrite, or Spartan. If you're willing to put up with learning how to compensate for it on the pavement, it's a way cheaper option than an elocker.

If your are toying/hauling a lot of stuff around I suggest you test drive a 4th gen. I think you will appreciate either the 4.0 or 4.7. The 4.0 has a lot more power and just as efficient. It also has vsc/trac...

For me, the ultimate truck is the 3rd gen, looks, abilities for on and off road, and modifications. I was just wanting to get the newest, lowest miles of the gen i like, available. VSC/TRAC, isn't the problem, or even needed, it just happens to be on the 01/02, and I was really wanting the elocker. So knowing if VSC/TRAC would interfere with it was all I needed to know. I checked out BigFish's build, and know it is an easy enough mod to do, so, it will lead to me being able to build the truck I want. My only problem now, is deciding between a Golden Pearl Limited or a Thundercloud Sport. Love the look of the Golden Pearl, hate oak interior and wood grain, and leather. Don't care for Thundercloud, but want the hood scoop, Sport Flares, and grey/silver interior. Anyone be up for doing a full interior swap of Limited leather/Oak for a Sport grey/silver cloth :rofl:
