Cliffs: For those that don't know the Quebec government announced plans to hike tuition fees quite steeply over the next several years. This led to outrage and protesting by the students. The government has now passed 'anti-protest' legislation making it illegal to protest without prior approval. This new law limits where, when and for how long you can protest. 'The law also creates many roadblocks to organizing a peaceful demonstration, and presents "so many risks that an honest citizen practically will not go there."'

I for one think this is absolutely outrageous. Total violation of a persons right to free speech and totally undemocratic. The whole idea of a protest is to be inconvenient, to draw attention to an issue. I'm embarrassed for Quebec, for Canada and am worried about the direction we seem to be heading as a society...

I wonder why the universities are raising rates in the first place. As someone who worked for a college in the US, I can say that the degree of fiscal responsibility I saw was minimal at best. The fiscal waste could buy me one new 5th TE every week for the next two years. Universities, while they still educate, have become much more of a business in recent years.

I see where one blogger states all the conditions of the possible agreement; I love the one where the percentage of the student loan repayment is based upon the level of income generate from gained employment. That would have a less than zero chance working in the US; loans would vanish quicker here than a fart in the wind.
