Question about Dealer Purchase Offer

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone here has had unsolicited offers from a dealership to purchase their 4runner? Just received one in the mail and at first I was gonna chunk it but it had handwritten notes from someone at the dealership. I might call just to see what it's about but was looking for advice here esp if you've had previous experience with this.

Thx

When my dad had a 3 year/low mileage lease on a 2010 Tacoma they were calling him every few days four months before his lease was up. He finally said yes and they paid the last four months on the lease and he went and got his Honda Accord sport.

What it's "about", is getting you to call. I get that 'special' postcard 2x a year.

Sry, but you're only as special as every other 4R in their database.

I get that crap all the time. For a while they were forgetting to enter my vehicle details into the letter, so it would read exactly like this;
Dear Robert, Demand for your <vehicle year-vehicle="" manufacturer-vehicle="" model=""> /vehicle year/vehicle manufacturer/vehicle model/ has never been higher....</vehicle>

I hate those. I get those in the mail frequently, and usually for a vehicle I no longer own, or for cars registered to me but driven by someone else (my wife, for example).

What pisses me off about those particular letters is the "how ****ing stupid do you think I am?" aspect of them. A handwritten post it note on a letter, addressing me casually by first name like we're goddamn friends or something; like I'm supposed to believe that the dealership guy has literally taken the time to get to know my situation and has decided to contact me and only me with this personal reach-out. Marketing tools like that, which purport to be so personal in nature, but which are clearly mass mailings, really annoy me.

Thanks for replies guys. Honestly the 4runner is only my second new vehicle, I've owned over 11 used vehicles in last 10 years so it's news to me getting an offer like this. I called today they want to see my vehicle in person blah! I guess I was just surprised they'd offer 39k on a used TE. Of course it would prob change once they saw it in person, then the games start and I don't feel like all that crap.
