question for v8 owners

I was wondering what is the farthest you've been able to drive before filling up. I just did a 450 mile trip driving 65-75mph and I was able to get 426miles a little after the yellow light came on. I think I could have gotten more miles but didn't want to risk it. the avg mpg info said 23-24mpg which is really 21-22mpg. I was also drafting behing a rig about half the time and the mpg went as far as 24.5mpg

I had previously gotten only ~18mpg on the highway. I put seafoam in the intake manifold, gas tank, and also added 4oz of acetone to the fuel tank. The tires are at 38psi.

That's why my friend always tells me, if you're going to get an SUV, you may as well get a V8 since a V6 gets pretty much the same gas mileage.

I don't think its such a great idea to be drafting behind big rigs. Unless you could care less about paint chips or a cracked windshield.

What, are you guys driving 55mph the whole time?? I probably get around 16-18 on the highway...if I'm lucky. I do have a very heavy foot, but I have to call shannanagins on 24 mpg.

I agree you start doing that stuff and your asking for chips or the dreaded windshield crack.

nope i was going 65-75mph the entire time... and i meant the computer mpg avg went as high as 24.5, which in reality is 22.5mpg.

i know its a risk drafting, but i havent had any issues doing it so far (knock on wood)

My best with the v8 is 415ish miles. That was with a 55-60mph commute in mountains. I have found that once you get up to 75mph average it drops a lot. Wish I had the v6 but boats don't give you a lot of help when you tow them....

I have been noticing lately my gas milieage is REALLY BAD. How bad? For a couple of tanks now I have been getting 14 mpg and I do mostly highway driving!!!

For instance I filled 18 gallons last night and got 255 miles on the previous tank.

Anyone has any ideas on what is going on!!! I have a K&N, stock size Revo's adn 65K on the clock.

Please help!!!

How many miles are on the highway and how many miles doing city driving?
try do the following

1) check your tire pressure 38-40 will give the best mpg

2) use seafoam in the gas tank and the throttle body/intake manifold. you can put some in your oil but you need to change the oil soon afterwards.

3) use fuel treatment like lucas oil fuel treatment. i use 6oz/tank and the stuff definitely smoothes things out and gives me better mpg. i have been using acetone (4oz/tank) and so far its been giving me a lot better mpg.

4) change air filter

5) use synthetic oil if you're not using it already

6) change your front/rear diffs and transfer case with synthetic fluids.

Ok don't give me too much chit for starting back up a nearly 3 month old thread. But there is another poster who posted a question about how to put the seafoam into the throttle body/intake manifold for the v8 and I have no idea. Could you post here how you did this, possible with a picture? Thank you very much!

One thing I've noticed is that the a/c tends to cycle on no mater what temperatures are set and ambient. I heard it cycle on up in the mountains when the outside temp was 45 degrees for Christ's sake. I keep the a/c light off and immediately saw a 1-2 mpg increase both on and off the freeway.

Also, keeping the a/c off all but eliminates driveline clunk.

I got seafoam deep creep which you can spray into the intake manifold. Just remove the plastic top and take off the intake tube. I sprayed liberally inside the manifold and let it sit for a while. After that I drove around to get rid of the carbon... Which will come out as white smoke

Have not really pushed the mileage too high and the tank too low.

Highest miles has been only 374 miles with 2.63 gallons left.

What about the lowest MPG everyone has seen???

My current low is 6.95 MPG towing my loaded car trailer on a trip to Michigan. This MPG was calculated and the dash display was 8.8 MPG.

Nice mileage numbers.
I have been reading about hypermiling, since my son told me he gets 45 mpg in my old '98 Rav4. Right now, I'm getting 23.9 mpg with a combination of city/country driving. Average speed is around 45, I guess. My tire pressure is 32, but I didn't know what was optimal, until I read on this site that it's between 38 - 42 gpsi.
I expect to start seeing higher mileage numbers, since it has become a "game" now, and I want to beat my previous record. Anyone else hypermiling? I don't claim to be an expert, and some wouldn't even call me a hermiler, but I'm trying. As I read on one other site, if we all got 25% better mileage, we wouldn't even need OPEC, and could pretty much name our own price for gas.
