Question re: predator tube steps.

I'd like some low profile rocker panel protection for my 2022 TRD ORP, but don't really see what I'm looking for on the oem and aftermarket. I was wondering what you guys thought about getting some take-off predator tube steps and cutting off the steps? Would the remaining "tubes" be too thin walled to provide any protection for the rocker panels? I used to have some slim rocker guards from Rusty's off road on my XJ. They were low profile square tube steel that worked for the type of terrain I typically go on. What's the general consensus. These predator steps are all over the internet for cheap. Thanks.

If you want to protect the rockers you need something that bolts to the frame. The Predator steps bolt to the sill itself, and don’t offer much protection. In some circumstances they might be worse than nothing.

Since you don’t seem to care about having a step, have a look at the Toyota “Rock Rails” or The CaliRaisedLED “Trail Edition” rock slider.

Thanks for the info about the bolting location. I just assumed those predator steps bolted to the frame. That kills that idea. Lol.

Having had both predator and oem rock rails, I agree that the rock rails might be what you're looking for. The predator steps are so lightweight that I can't imagine them offering much protection...they're aluminum and mount to the body.
