Apologies if this is obvious or found somewhere, but my searching hasn't turned up much.

I'm going to buy a 5th gen from either CarMax (a 2020) or Vroom (a 2021). I'm leaning towards the Vroom one. In comparing the 2 truck's specs from Toyota's VIN lookup, both have something that I can't find well defined anywhere.

What is the DK package? THe "Preferred Owner's Portfolio"?

It seems to be something thrown in at the port and not shipped from the factory. It's on both of them so I'm just trying to figure out what it means.

Also, both show the "TS" package, but it is listed differently.

On CarMax's 2020, it says "TS Leather-Trimmed 50/50 Split Fold-Flat Third-Row Seating and Sliding Second-Row w/Passenger-Side One-Touch Access to Third-Row with Third-Row Curtain Shield Airbags".

On Vroom's 2021, it just says "TS Third Row Seating".

Both shipped from the factory with the TS package. Is the third row seating identical in both model years? IOW, the 2021 also has the 50/50 split and sliding second row, etc?

Vroom is an online only dealer. CarMax has the car 15 miles from my house, so I've actually seen it in person. Just trying to to clarify what I'm getting if I buy sight unseen from an online dealer like Vroom.

All third rows are the same split fold 50/50 with the second row being able to slide back and forth.

Need the wife's final blessing today, but I'm about to go with:

2021 4Runner Limited
Midnight Black Metallic / Black & Graphite Interior
3rd Row Seating
Premium audio & nav etc. -- typical Limited stuff.
All weather liners & tray
No other packages or options


I really, really wanted the Redwood interior. But it's damn near impossible to be picky these days, and the alternative 4Runner I wanted is a year older with Redwood -- but more than $6,000 more expensive.


My one hesitation on the truck itself is that it's got 27K miles. That seems like a TON of miles for less than a year of use -- the VIN lookup shows a first use date of 1 Feb 2021.

My only other hesitation is that the dealer is online, so all I have to go on is the photos and their details and assurance of a 7 day refund policy. And I have to pay a $1400 distribution fee. But even with that fee, it's cheaper than the 2020 I was looking at ($54,000).

Yeah I have no idea why they don't make the portfolio standard or something. It's literally like $60 MSRP. But if it's an option, it gets its own line on the window sticker.

Yep. Both are limited. A 2020 and a 2021.

That is interesting, but I wouldn't read too much into it. I've seen lots of v-specs over the years as I used to sell Toyotas and there would be minor discrepancies in the descriptions, but functionally they would be the same.

I plugged in a few other 2021s, including the SR5s, and none of the third rows have the description written out, whereas all the pre-2021s were written out.

The faux leather case (Leatherette ​Portfolio​ 00116-PORTF-00SM | ToToyotaParts) only costs $9. Often the dealer provides it as a freebie. It comes with two different stitching colors, black and red. I have one of each color (4Runner, RAV4)

My dealer is cheap for they never gave me one, only a thin plastic pouch with the dealer name stamped on it. .

Yeah I'm surprised not everybody just specs the portfolio with all their builds. I used to make sure all our incoming units had it.

I once tried to configure a 2021 4Runner and the Nightshade seemed to “force” a certain set of options before allowing me to proceed, based on vehicle COLOR!

Black: No 3rd row, no cargo tray
White: 3rd row
Gray: Sliding cargo tray
