questions before lifting this weekend

Whats up t4r?

I have a 05' 4runner V8 Limited w/ the XREAS system,

I have a couple questions for everyone before I go an install my OME - 886 fronts/Bilstein 5100's - lift kit this weekend with the help of some local 4runner friends.

I will be going the "no spring compressor" method and I have read about people using a bottle jack to assist with the lower control arm to get it down far enough to remove the old and install the new springs/coils....However I have not been able to find a video or thread on the procedure for this, anyone have it???
I have only found this link, not sure if this is what everyone is talking about?
OME Lift

I was going to use this method:
OME Install - no spring compressor - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum
as well as a couple youtube videos to fill in the gaps.

I'm trying to avoid messing with the cam bolts if at all possible - till its aligned.

Does anyone else have any good write-ups on installing the OME/Bilstein lift kit or tips/tricks?

Just make sure you have all four corners in the air to decrease the amount of hydraulic fluid that shoots out when you're undoing the XREAs lines.

I'd advise on checking the cam bolts. You will need the alignment likely anyhow, and if they are frozen, may as well only do the hard work once. I have an 05 V6 from Nevada that never saw salty roads and the bolts were seized.

I installed 5100's not too long ago on my rig. Deleted the X-REAS and installed with no spring compressor. I used this DIY here, worked perfectly for me! Happy to answer any questions you may have!

Bonus rear end DIY if you need it.

If the LCA doesn't swing down relatively easy the cam bolts are seized. Since you'll need an alignment after the lift, you need to fix that, so may as well do so before trying a sketchy method to cram the new suspension in.

If you end up having to cut your cam bolts, I'd recommend picking up a Harbor Freight recip saw for $28, then use Diablo 8TPI Carbide Tipped blades from Home Depot. They're worth the extra cash. HF blades really suck, lol

The 886s are a long beast. I had to undo my UCA bolt to get the extra space needed to squeeze them in.

My plan is to jack up the entire 4runner as high as the jack stands go. Then starting to remove it, I'm looking for the "check valve" locations to make it a little less messy but at the end of day I just want it out as quick as possible

I'm hoping since mine was garage kept, and one owner with only 85,000 miles the cam bolts won't be seized. My UCA I will be replacing with JBA's around Christmas time or sooner, depending on money. The LCA cam bolts I can get the SPC kit but would rather hold off if at all possible. Obviously I understand that to get the alignment as good as possible they will probably need replaced. I will say that if they break free I will definitely cover them in anti-seize

No need for jack. Just loosen up the LCA bolts at frame, remove bolts at knuckle and let them drop down.

When people talk about frozen cam bolts, they are talking about the bolts being seized inside their sleeves. I have replaced my struts and installed a lift twice. Second time around I replaced LCA's and all four bolts. Had to cut them out with a sawzall at 172k miles.

Thank you, I'm hoping with my 4runner only having 86,000miles and that I have been spraying it with PB blaster and liquid wrench it will free up all the bolts.

Those will be on my short list if they are frozen and need to be cut.

Thank you all

Thank you all for your posts. I will be starting tomorrow at 1000am to get it on jack stands and get going. If I have any issues I will post in this thread or create a new one. So stay tuned, thanks everyone.
