Quick question about oil for V8

Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum in 5W-30 is what you want. Platinum is at least as good as any Mobil 1 and Ultra Platinum is the best oil you can get for the money.

You can also use 5W20 if you want, per a Toyota TSB.
If you are using synthetic anyway, 0W30 is theoretically better than 5W30. The viscosity when it's warm is the same, but when it's cold (even summer daytime temperature may be cold for the oil) 0W30 is closer to what the engine wants than 5W30. 0W30 is never thinner than what the engine wants at operating temperature, so it's safe even in the summer. Why don't all cars call for 0W30 or 0W20? They are starting to (like the 5th gen), but 0WXX oils were not common until recently and they are still more expensive than conventional oil, which isn't available in 0WXX versions as far as I know.
I'm going with either 0W30 or 0W20 for mine next time.

But in all seriousness, I would get a filter that is comparable to the YZZD3 filter used for both the 1GR-FE and 2UZ-FE in terms of flow rate, filtration, and bypass valve design.

I cannot believe after all this time, people still ask questions like this. There are tens of millions of threads and posts on this subject everywhere.
Anyhoo, use Mobil 1 5W30. It's what the Toyota dealer has on its shelf at the parts counter. It goes on sale at Canadian Tire and Partsource two to three times per year. When it does, it comes in a 4.4L jug with a 1L bottle shrinkwrapped to it. It works out to $6-7 per litre. Really good deal. And use a Toyota oil filter. They're under ten bucks at the dealer.

Some people still think switching to synthetic engine oil will cause your vehicle to leak and most of these people (myself included) weren't even in diapers when that was a true statement!

I can attest to this very possibly happening in a 2001 miata. Switched to synthetic for 2 oil changes around 75k miles and started seeping and dripping from the rear main seal. Switched back and after a few months there was little to no seepage and no drips. Could be coincidence I suppose.
Been running 5W-30 Pennzoil Platinum in the cold Colorado winters. No problems.
Going to be trying Mobil 1 5W-30 EP with a Mobil 1 EP type of filter now that I'm going off ext. warranty in December. Don't need to change oil and filter every six months.
Tried finding Pennzoil Ultra here in Denver... out of luck. If the EP works, I'll stick with it. If not, will go back to Platinum.
Some have gone thinner but not a lot of test reports back on this yet. Like 0W-20.
Most here on the forum have seen the 5W-30 perform very well in the V8 as the engine is very easy on oil.

I live 4 hours to the north and Mobil 1 5W-30 works through the coldest winters!
Fram Ultra is actually one of the best filters you can buy. Synthetic media with wire mesh backing, silicon anti-drain back valve, 15k mile lift, 99% efficiency at 20 microns, on and on...

Interesting, never heard of the Fram "Ultra" line, looked it up and it does seem to be fairly similar to the higher end filters. Would have to research it more to verify; but then again based on the link I posted above a lot of the "higher end" filters seem to be similar to each other. So I guess the Fram "Ultra" might be a rebranded "higher end" filter?
But to be honest when I think Fram, I think the little orange cans of horror.
