Quick Question

Ape Runner

New member
I'm down to two 4runners I'm considering as a replacement to my totaled 4runner. Both are on the third own and have had the radiator replaced. Neither knows why the radiator was replaced and I'm concerned it may have been the pink milshake and that would mean transmission issues in the future. What should I do?

Check to see what the transmission fluid is like I guess.

If its new, then they probably rebuilt the transmission. If its smells burnt or has any sort of weird color or metallic particles, then you will have to pass. I'm not sure after that....

Thats not a good sign. No matter how early you catch the strawberry milkshake it will kill you transmission. Could take a month or it could take a few years depending on how far you drive it. Coolant will destroy the clutch packs in the trans. If you really want one of them, I would drive the piss out of them and then ask if you can have the trans and coolant inspected. If it did have a milkshake you might find traces of transfuild in the coolant. By having the trans inspected you are looking for the clutch fibers in the trans pan and filter.

Unless the previous owners where on toyota forums, I highly doubt they were changed for preventive maintenance.
