R26 plug and pins? Nav install

New member
added an e7009 to my 05 4runner, now i need to pick up a R26 connector and pinouts to complete the BT and camera install. I may also pick up a R9 for nav (if i ever decide to) or R27 for aux in.

I have found the PN for the R26 plug just fine, but toyota wants $17 for EACH pin!!!! no way. what are you guys using for pins on the OEM plugs you purchased?

I drew this up when I was going through my phase of 7007, 7008, 7009 nav units in my runner.

That's an insane price for the pins! What I used to do was frequent U-pull-it junk yards, and find various Toyotas to find similar plugs, and cut them out to salvage the contacts. You can always splice in the wire to your wire, and insert them into your new plug. Have you priced the plugs?

Another option is to use various computer plug contacts, as they are a similar size. Obviously, you won't be able to use your new plug with them. They will have to be inserted onto the radio pins individually. You can solder them on (not necessarily suggested), or use a needlenose or something to pinch the contact for better surface contact with the radio pin. Of course, use heat shrink so there aren't any short circuits.

Others will probably have experience with other contacts as well, and should be able to offer good input as well.

Right on, thanks. I need to order a few other things for my any tine backup mod from the anyways. I clipped a harness that I think I will be able to salvage the pins from at a pick pull yard, but at 0.17 each, I just might get 10 and call it a day.
 
If you are still looking for pins and connectors, I know I've made some random purchases from this guy before (again, it would have been years ago). I know I bought one of the newer amps from him (in a Sienna shell), but can't remember exactly what else I bought.

I'd send him a message with what you need and see if he can help.
 
I picked up the pins cookieroe linked and got them yesterday. While they are snug if turned sideways, they cannot be installed correctly so that the lock hinge engages. If that makes sense. they should still work though.

Really? Mine seem to fit just snugly into the plug without having to worry about them "falling" out. As far as the lock hinge, I was going to cut them off.

Some people just got the plug from Toyota (shell) and fished the wires through and just left it there. That is insane IMO. Another option (not recommended) would be to solder them to the tiny pins. That's utterly insane, but have heard of people doing this. Yikes.
 
yea, they are snug and think they will work, they just dont install in a way as to use the locking mechanism on the mouser pin headers in the plug due to them having to be installed 90* from where they are supposed to be.
 
Reviving an old thread

Anyone have input here? Up to now I have avoided chopping up any of my factory harnesses. Does anyone have part numbers or ? I tried Mouser and digi-key but I quickly got lost....

I really do not want to carve up all the factory harnesses in my '06 w/JBL/Nav. I have been trying, without success, to find the part numbers for the "male" versions of the above. Basically I'd like to make a harness that allows me to connect my aftermarket system while maintaining the ability to reinstall the factory unit in the future.

Can anyone help me find part numbers for the male plug and pins for the above connectors R9, R10, R11, R12, R26 and R27? If not, has anyone come up with a clever and reliable way to tap those connectors without chopping up the harness?

I think that's the mate to what I am after

I think that link is for the female portion of R26... similar to what is on the vehicle harness. I'm looking for the male counterpart that plugs into it (along with the male counterparts for all the connectors I mentioned). I want to wire up a harness to use with my new stereo/amp so that I don't have to cut and splice the vehicle harness.
 
When I asked for pigtails, Toyota parts guy looked at me with a serious face and said something like $12/wire!!! I seriously asked him how he was not dying laughing...he didn't think I was funny. I tired the digikey piece cookieroe linked in this thread prior, but they didn't fit for me in the plastic plug.

I need to get back on this....

You are not going to find it anywhere b/c its part of a harness that comes with the car. Very easy, get a pin plug that I mentioned back in 2015. The wire bends (better yet soldered) onto the pin plug, you then snug fit it to the plug (I already tried, its. A nice tight fit). After this, you plug that bad boy into the back of he radio.

$12 a wire. Yeah eff that. What you can get at radio shack (or amazon) is probably a lot better. Yeah, this did t fit your R26 plug?? Weird. Again, I'm going to look for mine and post pics.
 
I think I am still doing a sh***y job communicating what I am trying to track down or I am totally lost.

You guys were looking for the female plugs and pins for these connectors so that you could install a Toyota Nav unit, correct? You needed the plugs that connected to the radio.

I need the opposite - I have an aftermarket radio for which I'd like to make a harness that just plugs into the existing vehicle harness. For this, I think I need the male version of what you guys found.

I've tried searching Mouser and DigiKey but quickly get lost in the forest. I do not know enough about these connectors (aside from the obvious like number of contacts) to filter it down to a remotely manageable level.
 
Don't think that make those plugs, as they are built into the OEM radio. So maybe you need to find an OEM radio, disassemble it and you will then have what you need.?
