Radiant heat in footwell

I recently traded in a 2015 LE purchased new for a 2018 TRDP. I’m noticing a somewhat significant amount of radiant heat in the driver and passenger (as reported by the Mrs.) footwells.

Am I imagining things, or does the LE come with more firewall insulation than the TRDP?

I don’t remember ever having any elements like that exposed in my limited.

Anyone see any harm in insulating them with some lagging?

I'm no engineer, but something tells me the Toyota engineers opted to not insulate them for a very good reason.

Thats engine coolant running through those lines to the heater box. So definitely use caution when touching it aka not after a drive. I haven’t noticed any heat in the footwell area. If i did though, i wouldnt see any harm in thermal heat wrapping that section to keep the temps down.

huh? what is above the carpet? i experience a lot of heat from the tunnel right beside my foot, you can add insulation under the carpet. just search for automotive insulation on amazon or wherever

I asked my wife if she ever experienced additional radiant heat. Nope. She mentioned using the lower half of the gas pedal, not the top half.

Here's the pic from the other thread. Not my pic, only borrowed.

That's an even easier fix than the tunnel, it's like $2 of pipe insulation

Yeah, it was mostly when we picked it up in the dead of summer with the AC running full blast. Now that it’s cooling off a bit and I have the windows open, I haven’t noticed it. May be real or just my perception. I may reopen this conversation next summer if it is noticeable again. Just didn’t recall it being that warm for the 3 years I owned the limited.

Not sure I'd run box store pipe insulation on those.

I've used it to insulate a thermocouple while reading the temperature on a coolant pipe in another vehicle (~200 def F) and it melted to the pipe.

Yeah, it would need to be something like fiberglass lagging. Definitely not a home depot water heater pipe job.

basic closed cell is usually 225-250 F, or high temp fiberglass is like 800+. none of it is expensive and it's all easy to get

have to wonder why Toyota didn't put something over those tubes...when I installed my pedal commander (even after the engine had set for some time) they were still super hot to the touch..this is on my list of items to address.
