Rain-x washer fluid?

I have been using the regular blue washer fluid forever but want to try this out. However reviews on amazon says it might:

1. leave streaks on the glass;
2. leave stain spots on the car paint;
3. damage the fluid level sensor;
4. leave a flim that can be completely opaque under some light conditions such as direct sun light at certan angle.

Anyone here use it? Got any of these problems? I'm particularly concerned about #4 but some people think it might be car specific due to different coating on the windshield.

Junk. The stock windshield is hydrophobic which competes with Rain X. I have had nothing but horrible experiences with their entire product line from washer fluid to wipers.

I have used it for several years. It works fine. I wait until I use all the existing fluid before adding the first gallon though so you get the desired effect. No staining paint. No gummed up pump. No streaking windshield. No difference except at 70 mph I don't have to use my wipers because the rain blows off. I have probably been using this stuff for the past 300K miles I have driven. No ill effects but I am just one guy on the internet with no credibility....
 
I've used it during the summer months for several years now. I haven't had any problems with it staining the paint, but it does leave a hazy film on the windshield where the wipers don't hit, and where it gets blown onto the driver's and passenger's side windows. It does make the water bead off the windshield nicely though.

I only buy it when it is on sale for cheaper than the generic washer fluid, otherwise I wouldn't bother.
 
It works good when it's raining and i'm cruising at 70mph when no need to use my wipers.

Been using it for years and prefer it over anything else. With that being said, I have had some slight staining with the orange stuff by the washer nozzles on the hood on my white 4runner, but I don't wash or wax it as much as I should. Nothing that a quick wipe with some polish and wax didn't remove though. Haven't had any issues on the silver 4runner.

this has been pretty much my experience with it also.
though, I haven't used it that long. just the last few years. I use the blue stuff in the summer, then switch over to the rain-x for the winter.
 
Never had an issue until this past month. But on my daily driver with white paint. I had the orange rain-x and I may have been at fault for not washing my car in a few weeks, but while driving this summer and using the washer fluid. IT did streak around the front pillar and did stain one side?! Of course I mark this up to an extenuating circumstance and not the norm. I also didn't lose too much sleep over it as my daily driver is an 02 Subaru with over 200k miles. And if my only complaint is a little tinge of orange on the windshield pillar than I'm fine with that. Never had issues in the past 8 years besides this one time when it was 100+ degrees for several weeks and my car sat in sun.

Sad that the paint on the old subaru is more resilient to fade/scratch/chip than the toyota paint though.
 
I have used this stiff for a long time in a few different cars with great success. Cleans bugs and frost off really well and coats the windshield with Rain-X which is great in foul weather. No issues to report.

+1. I've had the exact same experience. Last year (in my Honda Accord) the regular blue fluid I used from where I worked at the time froze up on me. It's probably because it was room temperature but I stopped at Walmart to pick some up. Withing seconds the washer fluid was thawed out to where I could use it again. Also something to consider although personally I've never used it, my little brother bought the "orange" rain x and he said it left streaks and would freeze on the windshield if used while moving down the road. After checking it out we realized he had bought the kind with de icer in it. The kind I buy says it's good to -30 but that it's all season fluid. They're both orange so maybe that's where the discrepancy is? Just my .02

In lieu of using over-priced washer fluid, use your regular blue and throw some RainX windshield glass repellent and you'll be more than happy...you will not even need the wipers on with it...the more you use your wipers with it on your windshield, the less the repellent works...I've rocked it in some REAL wet parts of the states and I'm sold on it...worth the time to put it on! Just my $.02...
 
I have tried adding the 4 ounces of RainX winshield wiper additive to my normal cheap de-icer winshield wiper fluid. It works okay but sometimes I get weird streak lines in the shape of my windshield wiper. I had to buff it off with a rag. Am I doing something wrong? Does my wiper need replaced? Or is this stuff just shit?
 
I used the Rain-x wipe on treatment once so far and it seems to work really well. Makes the windshield wipers act like they are brand new and I hardly have to use them.
 
There's a world of difference between applying it by hand on the windshield vs. using their magic additive in the washer fluid.

Agreed. Just like there is a world of difference applying wax to your car by hand and paying an extra $2 at the carwash to do it. It helps but one is clearly superior.

This is true. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to apply it by hand without streaking the hell out of my windshield though.
