I have found a couple of dirt trails but I don't want to be that guy that ends up on someone else land.
Is there a way to find owners of a space of land?

Not sure where you're located in North Carolina, but the Wake County tax department (and most other counties, I'm sure) have portals for their registers of deeds.

If you know the street address of a particular parcel, you can punch that in and find the name and address information of the registered owner.

Wake County also has GIS map data on their iMaps tool. Same thing, I'm sure most other counties have the same tools available. If nothing else, the county's register of deeds will have all of that information available.

Sometimes, landowners will also write their information on the "POSTED - NO TRESPASSING" signs.

Yes thnx for that. I have found the owners for a couple and there is no "no trespassing signs on the properties that i have scouted today (3). The terrain is mild and nice. One even has a creek i believe. Sent information to owners today so i will keep fellow RTP/Triangle 4runner crew posted. Might be a couple of good places to have a monthly meet up or something!

I'm from Cary but go to school at UNCW. Don't have class for another week (Florence flooding) and looking to try out my 4WD on my first 4Runner. Anyone know of some relatively tame trails or dirt roads to try my 4WD on around Raleigh?

Legally no!

Uwharrie National Park where they have alot of great trails specifically for offroaders. Uwharrie is almost 2 hrs from the Triangle and you'll need to get a pass. The trails there are suitable for a stocker, if yours is heavily modified you'll find the trails boring. Uwharrie closes 12/15 this year.

There are events and rides on private land in the area, North Carolina 4x4 Forum is a good local board of offroaders.

Tellico is 7 hours away.

There are trails in western NC in Pisgah and Nantahala, anywhere from 3-5 hrs away from here.

Anybody have recommendations for a shop to do some suspension work? Moving up to Durham soon, and want to get some work done on my ‘06. So far through googling the only shop I’ve found is Carolina Off-road Outfitters, anyone have any experience with them? Thanks!

Everyone seems to recommend Apex Overland in Browns Summit, NC (right outside Greensboro). I haven't had any work done there yet, but I hope too soon!
