The following represents the REAL account of the bin Laden operation from the guy who actually killed bin Laden... (the "shooter"):

Pretty interesting read! This account differs from the Matt Bissonnette's "No Easy Day" book:

1) This "shooter" guy was actually the "Number Two" guy behind the point man going up the third floor. Not Matt Bissonnette.
2) There was no one else behind these two guys as they went up to the third floor.
3) The point man took two shots at bin Laden from the stairwell, but missed,
4) The point man shoved the two women in the hallway away from the door to bin Laden's bedroom
5) The "Number Two" man (this "shooter" guy) then rolled to bin Laden's bedroom door, found bin Laden still standing and holding his youngest wife in front of him inside the room, and then shot him in the head.
6) About 15 seconds after bin Laden was shot and killed, the other guys then showed up - and some of them put more bullets into bin Laden's dead body. It would appear to me that Matt Bissonnette was among this group.

If you recall, Matt Bissonnette claimed in "No Easy Day" that he was the "Number Two" guy after the point man, and that the point man shot and killed bin Laden from the stairwell.

Anyway, the story above does seem to collaborate the earlier claims by the Obama administration (e.g. John Brennan) that bin Laden was using women as his shield. It also said that the shooters were (deliberately) vague about the details of the bin Laden killing in their initial de-briefs. This may explain why Obama aides were confused when they released details of the operation to the press.

While this guy (the "shooter" in the article) complained about not finding enough support for himself and others who already left the military, he did praise Obama for deciding on providing enough firepower to get the troops out of Pakistan in case something goes wrong. I think more help should be given to war veterans after they leave the military.... Perhaps this article will raise awareness of the plight of these folks as they re-enter civilian life....

It is also interesting how this "shooter" commented on the movie "Zero Dark Thirty" near the end of the article. He said the portrayal of the CIA lady who was instrumental in locating bin Laden was accurate. He also said that, in the movie, the guys were talking way too much during the operation.

I'm not terribly concerned about who did what on the raid--I'm just glad that they got that sucker. The thing that bugs me about all this is how the politicians are using this as a boasting point for themselves, and FOOLISHLY revealing as many details as they can, limiting the effectiveness of our military's efforts in future operations. The shooters were RIGHT to be vague, as every precise detail gives our enemies tips on how to limit or even defeat our troops.

yeah, i was reading that story yesterday, kind of crap if you ask me, sure he didn't go the full 20, but at the same time he's being used as the masked poster boy of almost every politician and armed forces in this country, i get that there are other guys who have been on the front lines just as long and are in the same spot (choir boys excluded) , but really i think that whole team should be retired and given full benefits if they are going to be used in the media the way they are, didn't we do this with celebrities/heroes in WWII ?

i really do get the flip side of the coin that there are plenty of other guys who go on very dangerous missions for 16 years that aren't going to get the special treatment this guy is going to get because he killed bin laden, but those guys aren't also being exploited by any one with .gov email address...

I believe every war veteran and his/her family should not have to worry about a single cent for the rest of their lives. The government should provide for them and their children. Although organizations such as "The Wounded Warrior" foundation are amazing, there should really be no need for them if our goverment would simply take care of its own war heroes.

I just mean, as a whole, the government should be taking better care of its veterans. I know several who have come back from Afghanistan and Iraq who have trouble finding jobs, getting proper medical care for their injuries, finding proper care for PTSD, etc. The stories they tell me about the hoops they have to jump through and all the red tape to try and get assistance is rediculous.

It's not very often I jump in on military related conversations but I kinda felt that it was somewhat necessary in this case.

I have been in the army for nearly 10 years, almost 9 of that has been with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment as a MH-47 door gunner. I have been on multiple rotations over seas and have been through my fair share of events that I would rather have not had to go through. I have lost friends and have put my family through the ringers due to the fact that I was never home. I have put myself through hell doing my job. My rotation schedule was 2 months home and 2 months over seas. Even when I was home, I really wasn't even home because I would be gone for training. I'm 28 y/o and my body feels like I'm 50 sometimes. Now, I'm not saying any of this so give myself a pat on the back or to brag. I am usually very modest about my accomplishments and very quiet about the things that I have done in the army. I am only saying all of this to build a foundation for my statement.

Throughout all of this I have NEVER once thought that the government owed me anything. I volunteered to join the army ans signed the contract like everyone else in the army these days. I got a paycheck like everyone else. As long as I am in the army I will get medical benefits for myself and my wife (kids too if I choose to have any). We all get 30 days of paid leave every year, a guaranteed paycheck twice a month, and one of the only jobs in this country where you can promote yourself (to an extent) in a bad economy.

As far as I'm concerned, whoever the shooter is doesn't matter. All members of the assault team were volunteers. They ALL asked to be in that elite unit and worked their butt off to get there. They are a part of our countries elite because they want to be a part of a brotherhood that is a family and makes a real world difference. It is also my opinion that the guys who participate in these classified missions and write books about them should be arrested and all books should be taken off the shelves.

Also, if any service member chooses to get out of the military before retirement, they know what they are giving up. He chose to get out of the military. Any one of those navy seals can get off of the front lines if they want and get a cozy job elsewhere and work towards their retirement if they choose. This guy chose to get out without any prior planning and now he's blaming the government because he set himself up for failure. Let's not even mention anything about what this guy did with all of his money while he was in. Navy seals make a LOT of money while they are on active duty and they also get a pretty nice bonus.

I'm not a huge fan of our government right now but in this case I do not blame them one bit for this guys stupidity and lack of planning.

Exactly and well said. I served 6 years in the Marine Corps as an infantry machine gunner. I saw combat in Desert Storm, Somalia, and several other places you won't ever read about in the Sunday paper. I NEVER forget that I volunteered for not only the Marine Corps but also infantry as well. When I enlisted I had 2 years of college behind me as well as having scored very high on the ASVAB. I could have chosen from a wide variety of MOS's but I CHOSE infantry, I signed on for 6 years instead of 4 because that allowed me to select what coast I wanted to be on. I chose the west coast becasue it guaranteed that I would be in the 1st Marine Division which if you follow history the 1st MarDiv is always the first ones into the combat zone. We were first into Saudi in August of 1990 and first into Mogadishu in 93. Every day of my life I am proud to have served my country.

Unfortunately for me I got out after my 6 years were up. At the time I was 26 years old and I thought serving another 14 was a lifetime....stupid me. I regret that decision every day. Now I'm 44 and I have a great job and a nice life but I still regret not giving 20 years to my country. Frankly, him getting out with so little time until retirement is kind of dumb. Again as stated above there are a wide variety of things he could have done to reach his 20 and nobody would have thought any differently.

The Esquire article was debunked by Brandon Webb of SOFREP | THE Special Operations Forces Situation Report. He said that the "shooter" from the article was on the raid but wasn't the one who actually shot obi. Also, he was kicked out of ST6 for talking about the raid. He was offered another position in the Navy so he could keep his benefits and work towards a pension. However, he decided to leave.

I see where you are coming from, but I believe that most of the people that say "we" are referring to us as Americans. I highly doubt they are claiming they were part of the elite team that brought down this sucker. That said, i wish there was a gradient type of healthcare that is worked out with veterans approaching the 20 year threshold... maybe there is something like this since i have zero idea of how retirement works in the military.

Esquire got the ball rolling with its story claiming that the Navy told the former Navy SEAL who shot Osama bin Laden, “Your coverage is over … Go **** yourself”:

There are so many problems with the mainstream news reporting of this side story about the SEAL guy losing his benefits after leaving the Navy.

As anyone who served on active duty knows it is not that simple. I served 6 years active duty and upon leaving the service my overall coverage ended - the same as everyone else. This Seal did not retire, he left after 10+ years by not re-enlisting and so his military coverage ended. It is the same as someone who left the Army after WWII ... surprise they don't get Army coverage anymore.

This veteran SURELY qualifies for at least 2 years of FULL complete coverage under the VA Healthcare system because he is a combat vet that served overseas. He would automatically qualify. I know because I am also a vet that served overseas in a combat zone and was I covered by the policy after leaving the service. This is not the same thing as a service connected disability - I am referring to complete healthcare for 2+ years because you are a combat vet.

I love how people believe that the NAVY told him to F-off. As is SECNAV personally wrote the guy a letter LoL. You quit your job and your employer coverage ends, it is the same for military who don't re-enlist as it is for civilians or police officers ect.
