Rear axle seal failure question

My seal driver kit is made by OTC and maybe I have one that fits the outer diameter of the seal better than yours. Are you hitting the seal with the flat side of the seal driver? You'll know by the sound when the seal bottoms out. If the shop that did the press work didn't do the presswork like you asked, you should be able to take it back and they can adjust the position of the ABS gear and inner retainer. I know I could do this with the special axle tool and a bearing splitter no problem. It would take a few minutes with the press to do this. I'm thinking you might be closer to having 7mm of polished axle showing and that's why the grease test is showing the result you got.

Was using the side of the seal driver that has the tapered edges so that it wouldn't contact the axle tube where the axle housing reduces right where the seal sits. And I'm sure the shop would have no issue moving it for me if they can. Ill have to see if he has a bearing splitter like you did. He initially cut them rather then re use them because he said he didn't have anything that could grab the ring with it all assembled in the press. Thanks, might be a little but I'll update how it all works out in the end

I think the way you drove the seal is the problem. You don't want to put the driver with the tapered edge on the inside diameter of the seal. You use the flat side of the driver and pick a driver that matches the outer diameter of the seal the best. You want to knock the seal in by applying force against the outside diameter where it's strongest. I hope that makes sense.

Yes makes perfect sense I'll have to try it again. For some reason though I remember the axle housing was preventing me from doing it that way, but I'm going to give that another shot first and take a pic of what I mean. If you get a chance to look I'm interested to know what size (mm) you used.

I'm on a road trip and can't help you there brother. Just pick the driver that fits most closely to the outer diameter of the seal and still fits in the axle housing.
