Rear Bumper hit - Replacement suggestions?

So my neighbor told me yesterday that she backed into my 4runner, and it turns out she hit the rear bumper extension on the passenger side

Toyota part sales has the replacement for about $110, so I am guessing the bill will come to a couple hundred bucks. Not sure what the insurance check will be, but I figure it will at least be a good chunk of the price of one of the cheaper off-road bumpers. And with Steeze's nice bumper thread as my catalog, I want some opinions on which I should get, so give me your pro's and con's.

Addicted's and Savage's seem to be the only ones in the price range. I don't want it to stand out a ton, as I still want this thing to look classy (please ignore the rusty hole in the tailgate...). What are your thoughts? I don't see pricing for alot of those bumpers, but it looks like plate is consistently more expensive.

If you want classy, get plate. I think tube bumpers look kind of cheap . My favorite rear bumper is the one 4runit has, its a perkins i think.

That said, addicted has the nicest tube bumper, by far!
 
I agree with Ripcord that plate does look the cleanest and covers the most. I've seen 4runit's Perkins bumper in person and it is sweet. Flows very well with the body and is built nicely. You could check out COB's CBI bumper as he has the same color and will give you an idea of what one might look like.

I agree with you on the addicted rear bumper. And for Nelson that would be a good match since he likes the Irbis front bumper. Nice combo of tube and plate front and rear.

Nelson, if we lived closer, we could build these together.

Thanks for the responses guys. The problem I am running into with the plate bumpers (I would very much prefer plate to tube) is that they are WAY more expensive (at least the ones that actually list a price, those that don't I just assume are way out of my price range).

I think I am only looking at a couple hundred bucks at most from the insurance company, and I can't rightly justify spending much additional money on a rear bumper that I just don't need.

Anyone know if the trailgear tacoma rear bumper will fit my 4runner? It is under $300. If that worked, I might look at tacking some plates onto it to fill in the gaps on the sides (so it would look a little more like the addicted one).

I like the new addicted bumper, but it is still a little out of my likely price range, even with the $100 pre-order discount.
 
You have to ask yourself, Do I need an offroad type bumper?
Then, Do I like the look of an offroad bumper?

I built my bumper tucked up pretty far and I drag it alot. I would have shoved the stock bumper up into the body causing damage.
I have also been rear-ended and side-swiped (both times hitting just my bumper) and other than some paint there was zero damage.

TG bumper will not fit. Completely different chassis in the rear.

Get it painted - $50


Total = ~$100. Pocket the extra insurance money.


A good body shop, using OEM parts, would probably put the estimate for the repair around $350. So, you could make $250 on the deal by just doing it yourself.

Yeah, I am thinking more about that as a solution now.

No, yes and no. I like the look, but I also want this to be a nice looking vehicle, not just an off-roader. Different looks, both of which I like, just in different situations.

Unless the check comes in around $500, which I doubt it will, I will probably just fix it myself.

I would love to build my own bumper, if only I had a welder and the tools...

I know. I really do like the off-road look. Kind of a dream of mine to have that kind of rig, but as with many childhood dreams, not the most practical for me, especially considering the cost. Oh if I had money to blow on this thing...

It'd be kind of a poser at this point though...
