Rear caliper running hot?

Am: get to work, left rear caliper smells and feels (non contact) hot.

Pm: take truck in for previously scheduled tire rotation and alignment check. Shop says the rear brakes are end of life. Pads and rotors replaced.

Arrive home later in the evening: caliper still giving that hot brake smell. Shop said nothing appeared to be hanging up. Wear was even in/out and side to side.

See if you have a seized brake piston on that side. The hot (constant friction) is an indicator.

Aside from your suspect caliper, it is somewhat common for new pads and rotors to be a little warm and have some slight smell during the bedding in process. But in your case, you have new components bedding in, but never really received a resolution to the stuck caliper pre-new pads and rotors.

Don't forget that your e-brake is in there too.

99.9% sure it is a seized caliper. Happened to me, wheel was hot to the touch and heat just radiated off. Pulled the wheel and pads and was able to push the piston back in... but it wound up happening again so I replaced the caliper. Point being that the piston can be pushed back in like normal during brake service but still stick once it is used again.

maybe it's your rear wheel bearing causing it to get hot.
