Rear Cargo Light Switch?

I believe the switch is inside the latch mechanism. I've read that spraying some lube up into the latch mechanism inside the rear door can help.
When I went looking for the solution on my 98 I found the wire harness going from the rear hatch to the truck (upper left corner when you open your hatch, you'll see it). Inside that harness there were a few wires that broke apart over time or whatever. I just soldered them back together and my hatch light works normally now.

can you describe now to get into the boot to see the wires? Sorry new guy here and I'm having the same issue. Thanks!
I am dealing with this same problem right now! Gently pry the rubber boot off from where it is sealed in the body opening. Then pull it back inside out. I found it helpful to go under the headliner and unplug the wiring harnesses. There are 4-5 wires that frayed and melted a little, including the main power (blue) wire. It was a little sparky in there.
To remove the light cover, you need to pry with a screwdriver on a small slit on the passenger's side of the clear plastic piece. The switch is inside the mechanism.

^ Wiring in the rubber boot that links the hatch to the body.. I had some issues with the rear wiper and cargo light intermittently working. Found the wires had been exposed and were shorting things out.
Ohhh I like this one.... Or a mod to turn on all the lights like modern trucks have? I'd like that
