Rear Control arm bushings HELP!

CMiles

I have one of my lower control arms out and I have tried everything I can think of to get them out, I tried using a press with no luck... Does anyone know if there is a metal sleeve on the outer side of the rubber that needs to come out?

Thanks!

DONT KNOW WHAT YEAR YOU ARE
but there should be a inner and outer metal sleve if they are like 4th gens

if so take hack saw blade out of hacksaw and run it through the bushing and cut

if you cant fit it drill out the rubber in between then use the hack saw method
just be careful not to cut into control arm

Sorry, Its a 95 4runner.

i have a press but the press wont get them out either... does the outer ring come out too? what can i use with the press as an adapter to press the outer ring out?

You have a couple choices:
1) Drill a few larger holes in , and around, to remove the bonded rubber portion. This will relieve some of the stress. You can then use a hack saw to carefully cut through the bushing shell, which will then fall out.
2) You can burn out the rubber portion with a map gas torch, but take due caution with the smoke/fumes. Wear a scotch pack respirator. This allows you to either cut the shell or press it out as the stress has been removed.
I personally don't like to press bushings out as it can possibly distort or damage the part your rebuilding. Best of luck with it.

I just got so fed up with trying to get them out I just payed a machine shop to do them, But now I cant get one of the arms out... It seems like its in a bind and I cant get it out... I have tried jacking it up trying to pull the axle forward with a ratchet but it wont move...

SHIT!! You are in Gresham??? You can have my old lowers if you want. Bushings are in good shape.
